Sail Date: Dec 2019

I have worked for 30 years to get my husband to agree to a cruise. He didn’t want those small beds, he couldn’t stand to be below the waterline, he needs fresh air when he sleeps, he gets claustrophobic, he’ll get bored. I heard it for years - enter Viking Ocean Cruises - no rooms below water, all rooms have a private balcony with a large sliding glass door, king size beds, comfortable sized rooms. Viking shot a hole in each of his excuses! We booked the City of Antiquities tour from Athens to Rome departing December 2019. Our booking included airfare, and Viking was amazing at booking the flights that worked for us on our preferred airline. On the arrival day, they met us at the airport promptly and transferred us to the ship. Every single staff member went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Each day in port was filled with activity - we saw ancient Athens and Corinth on day 1 - day 2 we explored ancient Ephesus and saw Turkish rugs made. On Day 3 we docked at Crete, then sailed for 2 and a half days across to Naples where we explored Sorrento and Pompei on day 6, and finished up in Rome on day 7. My husband loved the ship, amenities, restaurants and most of all, the vacation we had together. It was truly the vacation of a lifetime for us!

Cabin Review

The cabin was roomy and had everything we needed - starting with a very comfortable king sized bed, right down to the heated bathroom floors and some binoculars to watch things on the shore or sea. The couch and chairs were comfortable and there was plenty of drawer space and a good size closet. Upon arrival our room steward, James, introduced himself at once and asked what we would like to have. My husband told him we would really like some ice - James ran off and brought that back, and each night at 6:00 he delivered a full ice bucket to our room. We were offered extra blankets, pillows, hangers - anything we might need. This cabin was very nice!
