We chose Norwegian based on reviews after our last cruise with Carnival. Also, we wanted to experience a different firm and ship. Norwegian is much more expensive than Carnival. We expected a much better experience; sadly, our expectations were belied.

The ship had an Indian chef as Head Chef, and the most horrible food on the buffet was Indian. It was as if the chefs need urgent crash course on preparing Indian dishes. The buffet had a lot to be desired, especially for vegetarians. The Aqua and Venetian dining halls are very nice - sadly the food leaves a lot to be desired. Specifically, the Gnocchi served to us was stale and smelling, and we sent it back. Apologies all round from the servers. But this is just not expected! So, yes, food on Norwegian Dawn is a big letdown.

The onboard entertainment (except for the Elements show on the last day) were poor. The comedy guy should be banished from entering a cruise, and the magician should be retrained. Poor lighting and sound provide an awful experience for movie watchers - perhaps the Stardust theater could be opened up for movies when it is free, instead of running movies in the lounge where there is very little seating and lot of noise.

Cabin Review

Balcony

The cabins were nice. We had a balcony cabin, while kids had an interior cabin. The interior cabins (especially those which can sleep 4) have a lot of space constraint to get the bunk bed in place.

Port Reviews

Tampa

Long lines, but staff is great.

Costa Maya

Much better value if you get out of the port and get a taxi yourself.

Harvest Caye

NCL port. Not much to do. Expensive zipline.

Roatan

Better value if you take taxi yourself.

Cozumel

Save money and take a taxi yourself.
