I have cruised on Holland America more than any other cruise line, but I think that is going to change.

There are some things that Holland America does very well. The cabins are comfortable, the room stewards are exceptional, and the food is quite good. Of course, there should be more to a cruise than staying in your cabin and eating, at least for most of us. The entertainment on-board keeps getting worse, which I would have though impossible. I have spoken with Guest Services at Holland America's home office, and have been told how much people seem to love all the recent changes. When I've spoken with passengers, and asked what they thought about the changes, I was more often than not told something like, "Well, this is probably our last cruise with Holland America."

To be blunt, life on-board the Koningsdam was really pretty boring. On-board activities are minimal, and those that are offered are nothing special. One of the lecturers was fine, but the other one insisted on showing us photos of his family! I had seen him on a previous cruise, years ago, and wonder why he's still employed by Holland America.

Cabin Review

Verandah Stateroom

Our cabin was quite comfortable, and spotlessly clean, thanks to our cabin stewards. The storage space was adequate, but a few extra drawers or cabinets would have been welcome! We're used to having a shower/tub on Holland America, and this was only the second time that we've just had a shower. This was not a problem, as the shower was quite large. I have been on some cruise ships where the shower was barely big enough to turn around in.
