We had expected better based on other travelers comments, cruise description and cost.
To begin with the description of the cruise was misleading, it was described as spending two days in Bali, when in reality we arrived in Bali in the evening and had to disembark the next morning. Luckily we had extended our trip by one day on our own so we had the chance to see something.
Second, the wine package we purchased indicated premium wines but that was not the case, the wines included in the package are very ordinary everyday wines with no bottle more than $15 retail value.
Third, the staff did not seem to care very much. The restaurant staff was cold and at times rude, one waitress responded to my request for orange juice with "I only have two hands". The wine waiter at the Chef's Table completely ignored us for over 20 minutes while he was chatting away at another table. The second occasion we ate there our companion asked for wine glasses with stems, the waiter argued that those were wine glasses as well. And the Customer Service team, with only one exception, were uninterested and even rude, when I asked them to re-do my disembarkation card because they had made errors they told me to do it myself.
We had expected better everything, from food and wine to ports of call to time in the ports and the included excursions. Could be that Viking may be good at river cruises but they have a lot to learn about sea cruises.
OK but no great, poor design and storage space
We booked teh included excusrsion, Panoramic Bangkok. Didn't get to see very much at all, fortunately we have been in Bangkok before and spend another couple of days after the cruise so we got to see something. The tour guides in all these tours were repetitive and not very experienced.View All 46 City Tour Reviews
We reserved A glimpse of Kuala Lumpur, and that is all we got. A look at the Petronas Tower and a couple of photo stops. Not too bad but too short to really see much. The tour guide was not very good and look as if she had never done that before.View All 43 City Tour Reviews
OK, got to see a little bit of the city and had a couple of photo stops. The museum stops were a waste of time as you really don't have time to see anyhitng in the museum. Fortunatley we went back to Singapore on our own after the cruise and had a chance to see something.View All undefined undefined Reviews
We booked Jakarta HIghlights with the cruise on day 1 in the morning and then inthe afternoon we took the shuttle bus to a mall. Wish the shuttle would have gone to other locations but at least we got to see something and really local people doing local things. The next morning we went back to the mall before the ship departed, this tie they were having a talent contest for children and it was really nice, someone should have told passengers about this. The excusrions we did with the cruise was very superficial, as they all are.
It was awful, we thought we were going to be there for two days according to the program but we found out that it was only one evening. So we saw nothing. The had an excusrsion to some dinner and local floklore show but it was fully booked immediately, they offered us another excursion to a hotel while tehy would do the same thing by the pool at the same price. You must be kidding!
