Sail Date: Dec 2019
Cabin: Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

My husband and I took my mil on this cruise because she has always wanted to go on one. We rented a mini suite with a queen bed and a futon.

Embarkation was a headache. New Orleans is still a fairly small port, not built to handle the traffic and parking for these much larger ships. Lines to pass through security and get our boarding passes were a lot longer and chaotic than I remember. My mil has breathing problems, and it was hard for her to keep up, even with her walker. Rumor has it RCI is coming back to NOLA. They're going to have to build more terminals and parking if they hope to keep up.

The ship itself was really nice, but like I said, too big for our taste. Where I usually take the stairs to go up or down several floors, this time I took the elevator to go up or down even one floor.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

Very disappointed in the size of the mini suite. It was much smaller than I expected. Some cabins come with privacy curtains, but ours didn't. We brought an old shower curtain and rigged it with a clothesline and some wall hooks. Balcony was not as small as we thought.

Port Reviews

Harvest Caye

Very little to do except swim in a pool, lie out on the beach or go into the water. Can do that at home for nothing. The pool itself has a swim-up bar, but it's very crowded and people would cut in front of me to order their drinks. You also have to pay for your food. We had the unlimited bar package, so we went back to the ship for lunch and never returned.

Meanwhile dh and mil went to the spice farm. dh loves to cook and wanted to buy some spices, but the ones he wanted were out of season. It was very educational, though. Worth it if you like to cook. This one deserves the VERY GOOD rating.

Cozumel

I used to absolutely love Cozumel when we cruised the Western Caribbean before. Not anymore. You step off the ship, down a walkway, and into a strip mall full of tee shirt shops, a Starbucks, and even a Hooters! I guess they don't think we can go to these places at home.

Worst of all are the pushy shop keepers. Every store we passed it was "Hey, come in and look around." "Hey, we've got great prices. Better than WalMart!" One time a guy stood right in front of me and shoved a map in my face. I yelled at him to get out of my way. He could hear that I was serious and got out of my way. The new piers are much farther away from everything we knew on the main road. I have a bad knee and wasn't able to make it all the way up to the scuba diving monument. Del Sol is our favorite store, but it was a lot harder to find.

If I never see Cozumel again, that will be fine. The Cozumel I fell in love with is long gone.
