We had many cruises with MSC and 5 on the Divina, but this cruise was totally different than before...
Embarkation in Miami was chaotic, but definitely fast.
The ship itself is still in good shape and beautiful.
Even though Divina is a large ship with almost 4,000 passengers on board, easy to find quiet areas to relax or just stay away from the crowd.
During this 7 days cruise, we have not had any housekeeping. We had to buy our own toiletries prepare, open and close our beds. Someone came in once and emptied the garbage bin and in the last night, someone locked the mini bar.
We didn't get the daily newspaper, neither the disembarkation information with the luggage tags, and neither the voyagers club cocktail party invitation. Nothing.
The food always was an issue for American and Canadian cruisers - however I loved the international, european and especially the Italian cuisine. I could eat junk foods every day, I would like to try something different when I am on vacation.
Now, MSC opened their ears for North Americans and change the food selection. Instead of the large selection of European food, now we can get hamburges, hot dogs, pancakes, donuts and fried things....
About 80% of the cruisers were from India. Therefore, the main dining room selection had a lots of indian foods, plus they have a different "indian menu".
The overall cleanliness of the ship is also reduced. I think MSC doesn't have enough staff to maintain the ship. I have never seen such dirty parts on this ship before.
They changed the cruise director and discontinued the best shows (Pirates of Caribbean, Michael Jackson Tribute, The Mask, Witches of Paris).
Before this year, they only used English and sometimes Italian language on the caribbean cruises. In Europe, They uses 6-8 different languages which makes every announcements endless and add 20 extra minutes before the shows.
Now, it's also changed. Despite the english-speaking majority, they spoken in 6 different languages before every show. The show itself was 25-30 minutes long, but the whole thing was more than a hour long due to the introduction in 6 languages.
The itinerary and the schedule was not the best at all.
The ship arrived to Sinkt Maarten at 8AM and left at 2:00PM. The main attraction, watching the planes at Maho beach was distroyed, since the mainstream of the plane traffic starts after 2PM - after the ship left the port.
The front desk staff was really good - better than before.
Due to the housekeeping issue, they offered to remove the gratuity from our account.
Drink packages. They push and tries to sell the drink packages day-by-day. They also offer the "easy drink package" inclusive. Please COUNT before buy.
The "easy package" only gives you unlimited drink if the drink list price is less than $6.00
If you check the bar list, only the cheapest Heineken beer and pops and sodas included.
Regarding the Ultimate drink package... Count again. If you buy, you have to drink 18 drinks per day per person to use the cost of the drink package... If you are not a massive alcoholist, the pay per drink is more cost effective option.
I think the low prices make the MSC the same as the Carnival.
Cheap cruises - cheap experiences.
Despite my gold card, I am afraid we are done with MSC...
Average size. Was clean at the first day and in good shape, but we didn't get any housekeeping, so we had to clean it by ourselves.
