This is the second time we've taken this cruise. Our favorite ports are the small islands -- Dravuni, Fanning and Mystery Island. We rarely book an excursion, choosing instead to get off the ship and wander around or take a taxi. We like the Amsterdam even though it's evident that the new HAL President is cutting corners. Heard lots of grumbling on the ship about this. The Amsterdam Singers and Dancers were the best group we've ever seen on a HAL ship, but we were told that the corporation is getting rid of them. Sad. They were the only entertainers we regularly watched for all 51 days of the cruise. For a 51 day cruise there could have been more activities on sea days. We enjoy the library on the Amsterdam as do many others but hear the new ships don't have them. The computer classes look great, but so many of us have Macintosh computers, so we didn't see any sense in attending those. The food was very good. The staff is amazing, wonderful. Can't praise them enough!
The cabin was a good size. The closets were ample. The TV very small. Bathroom adequate. Water in shower fluctuates from warm to hot. We had a wonderful room steward.
I would advise anyone who is not an early riser to choose another cabin. We were awakened at every tender port at about 6:30 when the tender opening (on the floor below right under our bed!) was opened and preparations were made for guests to depart. At other times it sounded like they were constructing another ship under us. If you're an early riser, it's a great room because it's very near the exit stairs to get off the ship.
