I really wish I would have used our trip insurance to cancel this trip after the awful embarkment experience at San Juan. It took us 2.5 hours to get to port from our hotel 1.5 miles away and then another 2.5 hours to get on the ship. We heard from several sources that there were deaths on the TA cruise prior to ours with many ill. We saw numerous ambulances and a Hazmat vehicle at the port. There was no one to help with luggage or to provide direction for those in line. After 2 hours of standing in the hot sun, I finally convinced my hubby to drop our luggage with all the other luggage as no one was taking it from us. There were no bathrooms and no water until we got into building. After security the power went out. What a disaster! Once in ship we find out we will be paying tax on our beverages as we weren’t leaving port. The lines for food and beverage were long. The cues fur elevators were longer. We ended up taking the stairs the entire cruise even though my hubby has a bad knee. Smoking is allowed mid ship in an open air casino. So those with asthma, you are screwed. Plan on not breathing on decks above and below. Smoking is also allowed on one side poolside, so again, the wind blows it everywhere. We also had people smoking on their balconies even though not allowed. I just couldn’t get away from it! The pools are super crowded and so was the buffet. I never went in the pools or hot tub. We only ate at the buffet once due to lack of seating and lines. People were coughing during the entire cruise. I tried to avoid getting ill, had wiped down our entire cabin with disinfectant wipes and washed hands continuously but unfortunately for me and my hubby, we caught the respiratory illness that was going around. We have been ill with a terrible cough and fever for a week so far. What a way to spend the Christmas season. Merry Christmas to us! I guess this is the cruise that keeps on giving... will never go on this ship again or another ncl for that matter.
