Sail Date: May 2010

I just returned from a fantastic 7-night sailing on the Summit (5/9 sailing to Bermuda) and would like to add to the conversation around this itinerary.

First, the cruise itself. We have sailed well over a dozen times, more than a half dozen cruise lines, but this was my first sailing with Celebrity. We loved it! Especially noteworthy items include trays in the buffet (it seems a small thing until you go a week trying to clutch plate, silverware, beverage, etc.) and the adults only INDOOR pool. Sea days were quite chilly and it was great to have a place to go read and lie out, without having loads of kids running around or even needing sunscreen. We also truly enjoyed the Destinations casual dining, though wished the menu changed (ever - it's the same menu every night). Beyond that, we found the entertainment to be quite good, especially the Neptunes. Food was good, with the exception of desserts, which seemed below average (either very dry or very soggy, and often lacking in flavor). We chose the Select dining option for the dining room and really didn't like it. We ate in the dining room only 3 times, with buffet dinner twice, and two nights at Destinations. It's extremely difficult to get a table for two when you dine Select and we simply found the effort (needing to go about an hour early to be added to a waiting list, as there are no reservations for table size) not to be worth the trouble. At Destinations, on the other hand, we easily sat at two-tops, next to the window no less, and with no wait. Regarding disembarkation: others have written that it is a disorganized and lengthy process; we found that to be true as well. It seems that the cruise lines simply cannot cope with the numbers of people who now wish to walk off the ship with their luggage. It's especially hard at Cape Liberty since people and bags must be loaded into shuttle buses.

As for Bermuda: What a fantastic little island! It's very clean, orderly, and super friendly. We (my daughter and I) rode the buses and ferries everywhere and never felt unsafe. The multi-day passes are the way to go and the bus drivers and other folks couldn't be more helpful - just tell them where you want to go when you get on the bus and they'll let you know when it's time to get off. The schedules are easy to follow and stops are clearly marked.
