We went on the NCL Southern Caribbean Epic cruise from 12/8-12/15/19. We were so very disappointed with this cruise, we wanted to share with you our experience. We are avid cruisers. We have been on 5 Royal Caribbean cruises and 1 Disney cruise. We have never had a bad cruise…until now.

We arranged transfer from the San Juan airport to the port months in advance. When we retrieved our luggage and tried to find the NCL transfer representatives, we were unable to locate them. All other cruise line transfers were clearly identified by signage, and staff dressed in cruise line uniforms holding large signs. We finally located the NCL transfer representative (1 person not dressed in NCL uniform) in a corner with one small sign. We waited 1 hour for the transfer bus. The road leading to the dock (shared by NCL and Royal Caribbean) is a 2 lane road flanked by an airline strip. Collectively, the RC and NCL ships held approximately 4,500 passengers. All of these passengers were forced to use this 2 lane road to access their ships. As a result, it took our bus 1 hour to make its way from the entrance of the marina to the dock. Once dropped off at the entrance of the ship at 3:00 pm, we were told to bring our luggage to the end of a line that stretched over a mile long. No passengers had been allowed to board yet, despite the posted boarding time being 1 pm. Thousands of NCL passengers were in this line, in the heat, standing for over 4 ½ hours in a dirt parking lot, dragging their luggage. No NCL staff were there to organize or explain why this was happening. No water was offered. It wasn’t until several passengers became ill that one NCL staff person came to assist them.

We finally boarded the ship at 7:30 pm. We quickly cleaned up and went to dinner. We were told that we need to change to dress clothes for the dining room we had reservations for. This was never posted in advance nor communicated to us when we made the reservations with NCL. After we changed and ate, we were exhausted and went to our cabin. The distilled water I prearranged with NCL months in advance was not in our cabin. Our cabin steward quickly arranged this for us. We were exhausted so decided to go to sleep at 9:30 pm. We were awaken at 10:30 pm and told that we needed to go to the mandatory life boat (muster) drill.
