Pretty calm in the Bay of Biscay

After a slightly stressful summer holiday we booked this 10 night cruise for a relaxing time and to try out Cunard.

Embarkation at Southampton was easy and we were on board in time for lunch in the golden lion pub.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather as for the whole cruise the seas were fairly calm, for November and December in the bay of biscay and near Portugal and southern Spain.

We enjoyed two sea days on our way down to la Coruña, and enjoyed afternoon tea in the queens room, and drinks in the commodore club.

Food in the mdr, by and large met our expectations, we splurged on the verandah statehouse one night. The quality of food in the buffet was superior to other lines, even if it was sometimes hard to spot a free table.

Captain and senior officers were pleasant, our waiters in the mdr did an excellent job, we were a little disappointed with the service from our steward which was tbh pretty poor.

We found there was lots to do, I enjoyed the watercolour classes, the casino, a few interesting talks, and the whisky tasting masterclass.

We thought the shows in the theatre were poor, though being 35-40 we get that we are not in Cunard usual demographic.

We did our own think in the ports. La coruna we’d been to recently so just went for a walk, Cadiz is stunning a beautiful city and love to return and explore. Malaga we did the hop on hop off bus to explore the town which was fine, we enjoyed the Castle and the beach areas.

In Gibraltar we were only in port for half a day, so we did some shopping on the high street. Followed by a photo shoot in the early afternoon on board.

Lisbon, we bought tickets for the hop on hop off bus, I don’t think we experienced the city as we were both not wowed. Though we loved the sail in and sail out.

In summary we would love to book again soon.

Cabin Review

Cabin was fine and tidy, bit of lack of storage in the bathroom.

Onboard tv’s are pretty poor no interactive services.

We were disappointed in our steward, not topping up ice in the cabin, and being on a late sitting quite a few nights feeling like he was chasing us out of the cabin whilst we were relaxing enjoying a drink.
