This was our first cruise, for our anniversary. We traveled with a few friends and no kids. The Royal Princess is a beautiful ship and we were impressed with it in every way possible. it was big enough that we almost never felt crowded. The only exceptions were times when everybody aboard were all basically doing the same thing (embarkation, debarkation, etc).

Okay, so first cruise out and we are on a Medallion Class ship and now I think we are spoiled because I cannot imagine how things would be without that dumb little trinket. Everything just seemed so easy. Ordering at the bar, getting anything in the store, and especially embarkation/debarkation were pretty much effortless.

The activities seemed to be nonstop, there was always something happening somewhere. Same for the entertainment options, there was always something, usually multiple things happening at all times. The musical entertainment was really good, I think we caught the mariachi trio at least three times.

Cabin Review

Balcony

The cabin was great. The listing calls it partially obstructed but I would say it is maybe 10% at most. There is a lifeboat to the left of the balcony, but it did not hinder our enjoyment of the view at all, you cannot see the lifeboat from inside the cabin at all, you have to go outside and look left. The location of the cabin is pretty ideal, close to midships and just above the jewelry store, so no nighttime noise from below. Everything worked and everything was clean. A light went out in the bathroom and the steward had arranged for a replacement before we caught up with him to tell him about it. The TV and on-demand offerings were way better than we expected. Also, check the on-demand content more than once, movies kept getting added. One thing we found out by accident is that cruise cabins have metal walls and strong magnet hooks are a game-changer compared to where we would have put sweaters and hats and whatnot.

Closet space was more than enough for the way-too-many clothes we took, and the way-too-many shoes we brought. Tons of hangars were already there and staff happily brought us more. The closet space as the most surprising thing about the cabin.

The shower was pretty small, but that seems to be the norm for princess and is not particular to this room.

Port Reviews

Los Angeles

Embarkation with the Medallion was effortless and smooth. Dropping luggage was easy and parking is immediately next to the check-in building.
