We needed a getaway for our aniversary and this was where we chose. This was our second time on the Gem and we had fond memories.
First, The Good: Restaurant wait times were low, Service at the bars was quick and friendly. The assortment of activities took into account there were both mature and family cruisers.
The ship was clean and well kept, its showing its age, but the crew kept everything clean. Our room steward was quick and attentive to our needs. We went to be on November 30th and the ship was completely decorated before breakfast on December 1st, it was almost magical and a pleasant surprise.
The cabins are small, but thats no shock to repeat cruisers. My biggest issue was the bathroom which was so tight it was difficult to maneuver.
We wandered San Juan and found an amazing craft beer bar with great food, probably one of the highlights of our trip.
Beautiful views, but someone tried to sell me something every three seconds, couldnt even enjoy the scenery.
I just wanted to wander the port and have a quick look around, but I was harassed constantly by taxi drivers telling me they could show me the whole island. I mean I get they gotta make a living, but I was asked easily thirty times in the hour I was on shore and they were difficult to shake.
