The cruise fit the Thanksgiving holiday time period and left out of Port Canaveral which was convenient.
Plus, I had no reason to expect such a poor experience.
Below is a more complete explanation of why this cruise was such a disappointment, but the problems were mainly in two areas, cabin service, and food.
Reminded me a lot of my dorm room in college, but it was adequate. Clean and functional. Nice balcony, except being on the tenth floor aft, the fumes from the stacks of the Sun sometimes blew into the room, depending on the wind. The problem came with staff who moved and removed items without permission. We were always searching for phones, iPads, books, kindles, hats etc every time the room was cleaned. Any food we had was routinely thrown out. The bar fridge was locked more than 24 hours before the end of the trip. But worst of all was the food quality. Very high percentage of cheap carb heavy food, and tons of meat. Anything that actually required vegetables and preparation and was appetizing was in short supply. The claim that they serve vegetarian style was completely overstated. Vegetarian options were pasta and salads that withheld ingredients instead of well made. And yes, Norwegian acknowledged in writing before the trip that they provided vegetarian options...what they didn’t say is that the person requesting vegetarian had to do so for every meal preferably 24 hours in advance, according to the maitre d’, the head chef, catering etc. That is a lot of work for a vacation. The children’s menu was repetitive and lacking in nutrition, like a school lunch. We didn’t have any of these issues on a Windstar cruise we took earlier this year, so I was quite disappointed.
