We chose Regent because we thought it was a high-end cruise, plus we wanted to sail through the Panama Canal. The staff, restaurants and food were excellent, but each shore excursion had terrible problems. The cruise director should communicate with the local tour company the DAY of the tour to determine if there were issues, such as traffic delays due to construction, etc, and then make changes.
Our tours were never completely what we were promised, and extremely disappointing. Gift shops were always added in order for passengers to make purchases , but then time at our destination was shortened.
We took the Colonial Antigua excursion, because it is a UNESCO site. Due to construction, it took 2 1/2 hours to reach our first stop. We asked that the time be shortened at various sites, in order to get to Antigua. We had a wonderful guide but his tour company wouldn’t allow it. The ship should give them discretion to shorten time at sites, since it took almost 4 1/2 hours roundtrip on the bus We spent too much time at gift shops!
