This was our first time on a cruise and the size of the boat for the river trip and the exotic destination appealed to us and we were certainly not disappointed. This was a special treat to celebrate my husband's and my 60th birthdays.

We had a comfortable flight with BA from London Heathrow to Shanghai and our pleasant Viking guides were waiting to collect us and guide us to our hotel in Shanghai, the Westin Bund. Not everyone was able to stay at the same hotel but we thought this one and the hotels in Xian and Bejing were amazing. We had a 3 day extension in Shangai and felt that this gave us time to recover from the long flight and adjust to the different culture, also we were able to enjoy walking along the river walk (Bund), and streets and parks of Shanghai, and it gave us time to ride the high speed commuter train and travel in the local taxis.

After a flight to Wuhan our immaculate ship,Viking Emerald, was waiting with a warm welcome for us. We had a veranda stateroom which was plenty big enough for our comfort and storage of our belongings. We enjoyed the veranda but spent more time on the sun deck enjoying the beautiful Yangtze river and chatting to other guests and staff.The 3 Gorges and dam were stunning. Read more
