Chose this cruise as it sailed from Tenerife were we live, therefore no flying. We have sailed the Canaries before but still enjoyed it. The Explorer is a nice ship. Very clean, plenty of room around the various bars.
The entertainment was not as good as the Discovery, just the show dancers and one night a comedian, ok nothing to shout about.
We thought the service was better on Discover we waited a fairly long time to be served around the pool bar even though there were plenty of staff. That said we did get good service in the Lounge bar which we used most nights.
The food was fine plenty of choice however we have had better. The snack shack was not very good food was not very warm. Help yourself dinning good with plenty of choice.
Shore excursions no problems really, just the weather was cloudy so not much photo opportunity, not their fault.
Had a bit of an issue with our cabin cards did not work so had to go back to reception to have them programmed seemed to be a few of us with the same problem. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly for us as we were cruise only so boarded when we arrived in Santa Cruz 1.30pm and left the ship 8.30am when we were ready.
Would we go again yes of course but on Discovery.
Cabin was very good, nice queen bed comfy and pillows ok. Tea and coffee tray which is a must for us, Need tea in a morning. Bathroom plenty of space for toiletries and shower cubicle without the dreaded curtain. kept spotless by our stewardess.
