This cruise for our time line for our group and went to ports we wanted to see. Or at least it was supposed to. A week before we flew to Venice we got notified that there were “technical issues“ with the ship and would be missing two ports. They also shortened the time in the rest of the ports we were scheduled to actually visit. For this we got only a $100 non refundable onboard credit. We also had made outside private arrangements at three of the ports which really squeezed our schedule of sites we could visit. Equally annoying was the fact that at times during the nights when we were supposed to be sailing we would either be stopped or moving very slowly. However on the final night we were moving like we were in a race.
Embarkation was relatively fast and easy.
The whole ship is very dated but the Balcony cabins were adequate. The bathrooms are pretty good in that the shower and toilet have sliding doors and it’s larger than other ships we’ve been on. Our cabin steward was very attentive. The balcony rails and clear panels and the chairs were filthy as were the sliding glass doors. Looked like they are never wiped down.
Dining rooms were horrible. The food was limited and unimaginative and the freestyle dining meant that they took forever to seat you even when you showed up right at opening. The wait staff were hit and miss. Some had no personality and were just slow and going through the motions. One had no clue about the menu or food and didn’t even know croutons and cheese went in French onion soup. She brought a bowl of broth and onions to our table then told us that was the soup even though the couple right next to us had a correctly prepared soup.
The specialty restaurants were pretty good and the staff in them were ten times better than the regular dining rooms.
Entertainment got better as the two weeks progressed but there were no activities on the decks to speak of except for a music group that played in the pool area during the day. Overall the vibe of the ship was laid back to the point of being somewhat boring.
We missed Kotor and Santorini with little explanation as to why. As previously mentioned we only got $100 for losing those ports as compensation.
Shore excursions were okay but some were extremely pricey. The guide on our shore excursion to Les Baux in Marseille wasn’t very good. However the guide in Mykonos was excellent.
Wouldn’t probably book another cruise on Norwegian. I think there are other cruise lines that provide an overall very ship experience.
Average size cabin with okay beds. A little firm for me but that’s a personal preference. We could have used more hangars and additional drawers but we made it work. Bathroom was bigger than other cruises we’ve been on and we liked the separate shower and toilet. The balcony overalll could have used a good scrubbing. The chairs were dirty as were the rails and clear panels.
We didn’t stop here due to “technical issues never actually explained.
We took a taxi to the old town and wandered around and climbed the wall. The visit had to be cut short because of terrible weather that moved in while we were in town so we just made our way back to the ship.
Arrived and spent a day prior to sailing just touring and seeing the sites on our own.
Explored Corfu on our own. Lovely island with friendly people.
Another port Norwegian chose to skip with no real explanation aside from “technical issues”. Huge disappointment and one reason we probably won’t cruise with them again.
Buses to the Acropolis and given a guided tour. Had free time to explore the grounds. Then went to the flea markets for lunch and shopping.View All 390 Acropolis Reviews
Excellent guide took us on a walking tour through the town and to the windmills. Then we had free time to eat and shop and make our way back to the ship.View All 15 Windmills Walking Tour Reviews
Booked Rome Limo (romelimo.com) prior to leaving the US. Private van picked us up at the terminal and took us to meet our guide at Pompeii. She gave us an abbreviated but excellent tour of the ground with the time we had because of Norwegian cutting our time there by about 4 hours. We were unable to do the rest of the tour to Sorrento that was planned because we arrived to Naples 3 hours late and sailed 1 hour early.View All 96 Private Tour Reviews
Part of our Rome Limo package. Again we arrived later than the original schedule so our time was cut short. Another private van and driver met us at the port and drove us to Vatican City where we had another excellent guide to take us through the Miseum, Sistine Chapel and the Basilica. Our driver took us to lunch then to the Coliseum where our same guide took us through the ruins and also to the Forum. We were unable to do the rest of the sightseeing planned as Norwegian again cut our time in port short.View All 157 Private Tour Reviews
