We have been reading reviews on the Escape, at first most of them seemed to be negative but more recently they have been more positive. So before she left for Miami we thought why not give her a try. I should also add that there have been several threads in CC about possible changes to the Escape after her first dry dock, we wanted to see the original version. About us, we sail exclusively with NCL. Why? Well here in the NYC area, NCL provides diverse itineraries not only in ships but destinations. We are both platinum-plus with NCL. Also equally important, NCL hasn't given us a reason to try another cruise line. Embarkation and disembarkation at the Manhattan terminal were almost perfect for us. Literally no issues, I have seen utter chaos in the terminal with smaller ships, not this time. We booked this cruise within 60 days, so we selected the sailaway price, they gave us cabin 9704, which was described as an OA cabin. Cabin steward was part Ninja, only saw him two times, but the cabin was kept clean. He must have been hiding somewhere, we leave and then come back within 30 minutes and the cabin was perfect. Entertainment - Choir of Men, fantastic. After Midnight also a great show. Julie Barr, still thinking about some of her comments. She has to one of the best comedians aboard any cruise ship. Food - Cagney's, the steak was cooked to perfection, side dishes seemed bigger, did notice more surcharges on the menu. Moderno, way too much food, no issues with service or taste. La Cucina, just an OK Italian restaurant. The MDR restaurants had the typical NCL menu, no real surprises or disappointments. The ship was in great shape, didn't see any worn/damaged carpet, constantly cleaned and maintained by the crew. Overall we had a great time, even with the bad weather there was something to do aboard / indoors. Didn't spend any time on the top deck or Spice H2O. Wished that we had more time aboard, these 5 day cruises are way too short. Negative observations - 5 o'clock somewhere bar wasn't aboard the Escape, we went in there and it was dead, almost had the feel of dead space. Skyline bar which was used for the parties had a smokey smell to it. Could not get a great chocolate martini and they had all the shows in the Atrium which made it almost impossible to travel through deck #6 or #7 during the shows.

Cabin Review

Oceanview Stateroom with Large Picture Window
Cabin OA
The cabin was listed as an OA, but on deck #9 the only thing we could see was the bow of the ship and the crew standing on the deck taking pictures. The outside was on an angle, floor to ceiling and left to right, that wall had a bench across it and cabinets for additional storage. It was the smallest OA that we ever stayed in. Everything worked, bathroom seemed smaller.
