Some aspects of the cruise were very good and some were very bad. We stayed in the Yacht Club so please keep that in mind when reading. Embarkation / Disembarkation This is a big benefit of the yacht club. Both embarkation and disembarkation were pretty seamless. When we got to the port we checked in and were escorted to the lounge where we were greeted with champagne, food, etc. It is very odd but my wife was checked with someone else's name entirely. We didn't realize until later that day when we scanned her bracelet and it was my wife's picture with someone else's name. We had to go to the concierge at the YC to get it fixed. We soon realized that mistakes like this were routine. Food Our first lunch and dinner we ate in the YC. Neither was very good. The service was excellent but the food was just lacking. Our lunch on the second day was at the Sushi restaurant on Deck 7. It was phenomenal. Some of the best sushi we have ever had. Fresh. Perfect. Our dinner on the second day was at Butcher's cut. It was not great. We ordered wine and it took a very long time to come out. Our appetizers were served before the wine arrived. The steak wasn't anything special. Lunch on the third day was at the main buffet and it was great. We had pizza, hamburgers and fries and everything was great. It was easy to find a table, it wasn't too crowded and easy to navigate. Dinner on the third day was at Ocean's Cay. Major disappointment. Food was almost inedible. We sent back our first entree's and the second were even worse. Don't waste your time. Shows / Entertainment This ship is so disorganized it really is almost comical. They just don't have it together. Cirque De Soleil was cancelled at least twice as far as I know. No explanation other than technical difficulties. We saw some Broadway rock show which was pretty good. We also saw "Way" which was not for me. There is a lack of live shows and entertainment. We are used to RCCL and NCL which has endless entertainment and this just can't compete. Ship The ship is really beautiful. It is modern and clean and that was the best part of the trip. One negative is that there is a very strong sulfur smell all over the ship. If you don;t know what sulfur smells like, well the best way to describe it is "fresh poop." We were told that the sulfur was coming from the exhaust on the top of the ship. Seems like it was a design flaw. It was especially bad near the water park. Yacht Club The Yacht Club was really nice. We had great service, everyone was mostly friendly. There was only once concierge and they should have more considering what the YC costs. I actually felt bad for him because he was dealing with so many complaints. The food wasn't great (see above). The pool and deck on the 18th floor were great. The food area on the side should not be missed and it was a highlight of the trip. They are open for breakfast and lunch. Spa The spa service was really good. I had a massage and my wife had a facial and we were both happy with the services. The spa facilities were packed on the sea day and it wasn't enjoyable. Also the staff are like vultures trying to get you to sign up for more services and buy products. I understand the need to sell but its really annoying and makes the experience less enjoyable. Pools We didn't go in the YC pool but we did go in the hot tub. The hot tubs all over the ship are not hot.....they are luke warm and it wasn't very relaxing. The waterslides were awesome. We waited in a 20 minute line for a tube...finally got one and walked up to the top of the slide only to be told we need a bracelet that we get after signing the waiver. They should tell you about the waiver before you get on the line to wait, not after. That was disappointing and part of the overall lack of organization across the entire ship. Gym The gym was a pretty big disappointment. It was tiny. There was no water other than a water fountain that didn't spray the water high enough so if you wanted water you would had to put your mouth on the water spout. Pretty gross. Kids We didn't travel with our three kids so I can only speak off what I observed rather than experienced. They put a smoking area right next to the kids club area which was very odd. The kids club hours seemed strange too. For example, those with babies could only drop off the babies between 8pm-11pm. We tried asking questions for our future reference in case we want to come back with kids but the staff was very rude. There seemed to be a lack of things for the kids to do. We met another family who had their kids with them and they couldn't wait to get off the ship. Their kids were bored. We have traveled with kids on RCCL and NCL and both were much better equipped with kids activities. Overall Unless we were doing YC we wouldn't sail with MSC again. One of our ports was cancelled which was disappointing. We weren't told at checkin that we needed to link our credit card to our account until the last night. So we went to buy Gelato and we were denied after waiting on a 10 minute line because we didn't have any credit left. Little things like that were happening with a lot of frequency so it left us with a bad impression. Compared to the Haven experience on NCL, we would much prefer the Haven.
