Went on a Fall Rhine River cruise that started in Amsterdam and ended in Basel. It was a fantastic experience. Stopped at many interesting ports where we saw and experienced so much. You definitely aren't bored as there are so many stops and excursions planned. Wouldn't call this a relaxing vacation, as we were exhausted afterwards, but we didn't expect that either. We knew we would be on-the-go the entire time. If you are looking to experience cities and history along the Rhine, this is the way to do it.
Out of the many ports we hit, our favorites were Amsterdam, Cologne, Koblenz, Heidelberg, and Strasbourg. Great cities with so much to do and see. And each one offered a little something different. Canals, bikes and narrow streets in Amsterdam. The cathedral, love lock bridge, ferris wheel, and Kolsch beer in Cologne. The architecture, history, and spitting boy in Koblenz. Castle, quaint town, and Vetter 33 in Heidelberg. The beautiful architecture and cathedral in Strasbourg, along with the food and shops.
Onboard the ship was great, as well. Received fantastic service from all staff. Snacks and coffee/tea/water were available throughout the day. Meals were very good and I liked how they prepared regional foods and wines depending on the area we were sailing through. Also, liked the smaller boat compared to the larger ocean liners in that you really got to know most of the passengers to some degree - some very closely, some just in passing. But, you pretty much knew everyone onboard with only 120 cabins.
