Although it is an 39 year old ship we had a great time on board. We booked a club continent suite and the stateroom was spacious enough for two adults. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Food is, compared to Aida or MSC cruises, above standard. Entertainment is of course a little bit limited due to the size of he ship but we don’t need a rollercoaster nor a ice skating range. Two very good band are playing every evening and there is also a talented piano player and a DJ. The relatively small size of the ship is the biggest advantage. Never ever we had to wait in lines. Everything is good organized from embarkation to Disembarkation. Obviously it is easier to handle 600 guests than 4000+. Most of the guests are 50+ therefore there are no kids on board. Three negative items: First: on a 3-day stay in Myanmar we had to save water because the ship didn’t had enough water on board. The crew closed the laundry and towels need to be reused, same as the tablecloth. Would be no problem if we had been informed not just one day before the shutdown. The official excuse was that onboard examination proved that water form then onshore is not safe. But the crew stated that this happens every time when the the shimmies in Myanmar. Why they don’t inform the guests at the beginning of the cruise ore even better, dealing with this issue honestly during the booking process? Second: Azamara advertises with small ships which are able to dock close to the city. In Myanmar we were isolated on a very remote port. Driving time to downtown was 2 house one way. Third: some shore excursions are just a rip-off. If you pay 119$ for a day on the beach in a luxiourios hotel you I’ll end up in a hotel we’re you are treated as a second class. This happens to us. We paid 238$ for a day on the beach. The day on the beach was only 4h which we spent completly in the garden of the golden sands hotel in Georgetown because the beach is public with all its vendors and „beach boys“. While all the other hotels guests can have as much towels as the like we are only entitled to get one towel. Even after a kind request they refused to give us a second towel so we can cover the dirty chair. By the way: the rate for a room is 78$ per night for two guests according tot he hotels homepage.
