We flew from the UK 4 days before the cruise. Stayed at The Hampton Inn and Suites Midtown Miami which was a fabulous hotel with great staff in a great location to food and shops. We used their port shuttle at $7pp This was our first Carnival cruise I have done one Princess and a number of RCI so there will be a few comparisons. Embarkation was a breeze, our arrival time was 1230-1, we got out of the transfer bus at 1145 and was on by 1210. First impressions when we got into the atrium was that it was smaller than it looked on all the vlogs I watched, but everything flowed nicely. We went to deck 10 and had a drink while we waited for the rooms to open. We had room 9201 a secret deck room right at the very front of the ship, it is classed as a interior with a walk way view. It had a large window that looked out to the front deck, we never saw anybody there unless we were pulling in or out of port and then it was only a few people. Cabin was larger than a standard cabin and we loved every aspect of it. Our room steward was great. After we dropped our bags we then went to the Italian for lunch, food was very hot with a nice taste. Sail away party was amazing, we had Cookie as CD and what an amazing entertainer he is along with Leo. Sail away party was much more fun than RCI We ate at the Marketplace the first night and we were not impressed with the lack of choice. RCI beat Carnival on the buffet selection. On our other cruise's we have become more costumed to eating in the lido rather than the dining rooms. We went to the dining room the second night using the app to check us in, never waited more than 10 mins for a table. We were amazed at the quality of food in the dining room, every meal came out piping hot and each meal had so much flavor. Carnival dining room blew RCI out the water on this one. Day entertainment throughout the week was on par with RCI, we enjoyed both, although obviously outdoor pool entertainment was much livelier on Carnival which we enjoyed. We went to 2 shows which we found very good, but they all seemed to blend into one. I wont compare to RCI as they have the same shows for a number of years so we stopped going to them. The Quest...amazingly funny, a lot more raunchier than RCI, you are forewarned, how people can complain about it with the amount of warnings they give is beyond me! The Halloween party was amazing, what a turn out and everybody was enjoying themselves. We encounted fantastic service throughout the cruise, everybody was friendly. Public areas especially by outside doors were very warm but the tempreture in our room was perfect. The lifts!!! Very slow, where were they coming from?? People did seem to get the grasp of them but they were very slow to arrive, many people gave up and struggled with the stairs instead. An accident waiting to happen! We would wait for like an eternity for it to come, it wouldn't even arrive full, even at quiet times they took some time. Montego Bay ship organised, we did the Dolphin Encounter and Doctors Cave. The dolphin interaction itself was fantastic, they did try to upgrade us to the swim for $30pp but my daughter thought it was unfair that they pull you on their fins. $40 for one photo, and only one person in the photo. We got 2 hours at the beach, be warned you will have to walk through a gang of sellers before you get to the beach entrance but our guide was brilliant making sure we were all safe. Grand Caymen we just got off and walked along the shops, stopped off at Margaritaville, expensive as you would expect. Cozumel ship organised, Isla Passion by Twister boat. The whole day was amazing! The twister boat was so much fun but we did get soaked! The beach itself was beautiful and felt like paradise. It was all inclusive but after I tried one rum punch I stuck to the coke, not sure if the alcohol was over the top or it was very cheap rum, either way it wasn't nice. Food was lovely but was only a small selection. On our last night at 945pm the captain came on to inform us that there was a fire in the incinerator room, he updated us later on to say it was all dealt with within 30 mins, was little scary for a while, but that gave the comedian a good act later on ha! Throughout the week we could smell marijuana, it appears to be a regular thing and a blind eye is turned, even the comedian made a joke of it. Fellow passengers, although we did not encounter any rude passengers we didn't feel it was as friendly as our previous cruises on RCI, we always get talking to people but this cruise we found it hard, Not sure that it was because it seemed that there were a lot of groups of friends and family and they didn't venture outside of their travel companions or because that is the difference between RCI and Carnival passengers. Overall we had a very enjoying week and we would cruise Carnival again

Overall a good change from RCI

Cabin Review

Interior
Cabin 4F
Larger than average. Lovely that you could walk out onto the open forward deck. Only got a shudder when the ship was moving sideways. Didn't feel anymore movement in the cabin than anywhere else on the ship
Deck 8 Inside Cabins, Balcony Cabins
