We took this cruise as part of a group and the other couples enjoyed NCL. This wasn't our first NCL cruise and it has been 10 years since we cruised with them. Embarkation went smoothly and we arrived very early to be able to access Vibes. Imagine the disappointment when we were advised that it was sold out. Many unhappy people. NCL's policy is you cannot purchase this prior to embarking but we discovered that a group reserved about 200 rooms and they sold them all of the Vibes passes as well. As far as we know, it was not posted on any of our documents that this option would be unavailable for our sailing. We did purchase the Thermal Suite passes and it was a great option for us. Unfortunately, if we bought this online prior to sailing it would have been less money. Poor customer service on their part. Cleanliness of ship and stateroom was over the top. Kudos for NCL here. Staff was attentive and friendly but overworked. The waterfront on the Getaway was charming. We had dinner outside when available. Our cruise included all of the additional perks offered but feel it was too expensive for what was received. The internet speed was dial-up era. My friend bought additional minutes at a better speed (yes speed is an up-charge) and it did not work very well. The drink package sounds great but for us it was not necessary. We could have purchased a bottle of wine with dinner each night and not have had the same expense. We should have researched this more prior to booking. They did not staff the bars adequately so it took a long time to receive a drink. The staff at the bars worked tirelessly. We ate breakfast at Savors and not once was the breakfast hot. It was staffed well. The breakfast at the pub was better. We are not buffet people so only went there when necessary. The specialty restaurants were good and we only ate there because it was included. Of the four we dined at only Le Bistro was disappointing. The casino deck smelled of cigarette smoke and the closed smoking area on the pool deck smelled as well. The fitness center was large and we never had to wait to use any of the machines during our stay. We enjoyed Burn and Floor and Rock of Ages. This was the only entertainment venue we used and were able to book online. All of the up-charges for shows is another example of excess charges. We had to visit Guest Services a few times because the bill reflected a balance but we both had enough shipboard credit to cover all of our fees. Each time they told us it was OK and when asked, they told us the balance. We even bought something in a gift shop to absorb the credits. We reviewed the bill and thought all was fine. Apparently, neither my husband nor myself paid enough attention because our credit card was charged a sum that should have been covered by said credits. We are in the process of a dispute. Another example of poor customer service. The ship is large and we have read reviews that said people never felt like it was crowded. We disagree. The ship was full and you felt it. At one point during the week the ship left voicemails that clothes had to be worn on ship! We believe they were referring to Vibes and we could only imagine the group that was sold the passes were not fully clothed. NCL had access to the shared bar on this deck blocked. There were a lot of children on the ship. I'm sure this was received in error for our stateroom. The Western Caribbean itinerary was fine. We have been to most of the ports previously and did not take part in any shore excursions and just walked in each port. The customer services issues before and during the cruise would cause us not to cruise NCL again.
