I a Gold member on NCL having done 9 cruises with them. I just completed the 11 Day Greek Island cruise, and apparently since the cruise-line purchased the higher caliber, Regent Seven Seas, and Oceania, their lower class brand name Norwegian has taken a back seat to quality control, food standards, and overall customer appreciation. Our food quality throughout was sub standard. There was a day when the Bistro served, incredible lobster, There were amazing buffets, creative cuisine, Always, keeping your attention with their details, and making the dining experience one to remember. Nothing was memorable on this cruise. Except for the wonderful bartenders, waitresses, support staff. In that respect the cruise continues to excel. However, the policies with regards to port changes, is not accommodating . Our cruise missed Florence. This is a MAJOR stop that many people might have taken the cruise just because of that port of call and due to mechanical issue, we went directly back to Citavecchia. There was a $100 credit offered for the reroute, but unless you owed the ship $100 , you would not be able to collect your credit. On this particular cruise, I must say the entertainment was the best I have witnessed on recent cruises, and I would say they did that one thing right, and should hope to continue to keep that theatre group on staff within the cruise line. My girlfriend just got off the Norwegian Spirit, Oct sailing from Southampton to Venice, and her cruise missed a stop in Iceland, whereby the cruisers were protesting for a refund for their cruise. Not to mention backed up toilets and poor food quality, NCL offered 25% discount on their next cruise for the inability to stop in Iceland due to bad weather. I agree they have the right to revise itinerary for safety reasons, they should adjust their policies when there are problems. The passengers would not be demanding refunds if the deficiencies were just the fact that they missed a port of call. There are many other reasons this cruise line is falling short. I will not be taking another NCL cruise. There is no benefit to their gold/platinum members, nor is there benefit to their loyal customers. Last but not least, you do get what you pay for. The NCL line has reduced prices, that allows a more affordable cruise, therefore, if we can't afford to pay more for a cruise, I guess we can't expect better service and food. For the money, I guess I shouldn't be complaining. Also, I will give the NCL credit for their medical facilities. My husband was hospitalized on board for a respiratory ailment that spread throughout the ship, and their medical team, is extremely good, although 3 days of treatment was $6000. There was literally a hospital on board the ship, and many people had picked up a respiratory ailment, and there were a number of heart patients aboard. In the medical area, the cruise was very good. Hope this review helps.

Port Reviews

Taormina (Messina)

Arrived on a Sunday. Nothing open, they reversed days for this port. Boring, ugly town. Would not return.

Malta (Valletta)

Loved Malta- just got off the boat and walked around. Beautiful historic town. An excursion might have been warranted.
