Price and a chance to see if our first impressions were correct.
We took this cruise 10 days before sailing because we had done
an earlier cruise on the Caribbean Princess. We also wanted to
see the fall leaves, did so on the train ride from Montreal airport to
cruise port. If you are going, it is the easiest way to get from the airport to
the cruise port area, and so much cheaper. Beside it is a lovely train ride down
the seaway, especially in the fall. The ship itself, was in the middle to its third code
red. It had a deep cleaning in NYC and one in Quebec City, before we boarded.
It was scheduled for a third deep cleaning in NYC upon our arrival. On our journey
we had seven cases on Noro, staff and entertainers, no passengers. . We used the cruise, which had eight days of ports as transportation, and a place to sleep.
Loved the ports, we did our on thing in each on, took a couple a tours, purchased at or
near the ports, which was easy to do. Because we didn't care for the food, it had
been an issue on our earlier cruise also, we ate off the ship most every day, very reasonable and good. At the local supermarket in Sydney for 3,00 CD freshly made for us, a great lobster roll. . Ate Lobster in Halifax and
Bar Harbour---through the later was the most expensive of the lot. 30.00usd for a
complete dinner which was so big we shared it. Boston, we ate at our favourite seafood
place. In all it was a good cruise. The food on the ship was not very good, especially dinner in MDR.
The cabin was clean and was ready when we bordered.
We did lower and upper city. Was excellent and a good overview of history.. Loved it. was a walking tour.
We took a taxi from the port to the nearby falls. Note you can also see the falls and the departure from Quebec City
Local bus to North Sydney, easy to do and gives one a nice overview of the area. We have driven the Arcadian road before. If you haven't done it rent a car and do some of it.
We did our own walking tour of the city, to the Public Gardens and three brew pubs.
We took Ollie Trolley short tour 2 and half hours through the national park. Was lovely with all the fall colours out and had a lobster dinner a lovely place off the main tourist areas.
We walked into city alone the seaport way, lovely bars and areas to Quincy Market, did some of the freedom trail North and South Churches, Boston Commons, and the like. Went to the brew pub near the dock, great, and took an uber to a favourite seafood place in Winthrop.. Good day, would have been better, if the ship had arrived in the morning as scheduled.
If you love oysters, this city has some of best oyster bars.
