Nieuw Statendam Cruise Review by davidh68
- Sail Date: September 2019
- Destination: Mediterranean
- Cabin Type: Neptune Suite with Verandah
The food in the Lido and DR on HAL is average at best. We almost always ate in the Lido because the restaurant is a hassle for us (we don't tend to linger over dinner) and the food is no better. That said, the Lido can be pretty intense, almost competitive most of the time.
The aft pool was nice esp since hardly anyone used it while we were on the ship. There are only 2 hot tubs out there, so there was a lot of competition for those.
There is a relatively new(?) entertainment feature - Lincoln Center on Stage. A rather pompous name for what was provided - a reader's digest version of some classical pieces (and pop tunes) played inharmoniously and off-key. We didn't try any other entertainment.
The cruise director seemed a lot smarter and more capable than most.
We liked the Tamarind bar for the views and the quiet and the bartender.
Great books in the lounge at the top of the ship.
We didn't go on any shore excursions.
