Suggested by travel agent. supposed to be top of the line experience, which it was not. Overpriced for what they provide. Highs: Service and staff. Salamance. Porto. Medium: Rooms were OK. They were small because ship has to be lower and narrower than other Ama boats because the locks on the Douro are small. Some noise from other rooms. We had a balcony and floor to ceiling sliding glass windows, which were nice but not necessary. Some of the shore excursions were excellent, some were mediocre fillers. Lows: Food, singer/piano player, tastings. Fitness facility was the size of a walk-in closet with two machines and some free weights. As other reviews pointed out, breakfast and lunch were fine but dinners were not. dinner items ranged from mediocre to inedible. I was looking forward to the local meals and tastings and very disappointed. The tastings were not tastings. we werent being offered multiple types of similar wines or ports. Typically, one red and one white wine were served and that was it. same with Port. There was one food "tasting" that consisted of small shop keepers offering us samples in hopes we would then buy. That was a tasting but not what i expected. My overall impression was that we were stuck with the type of local meals and tastings that i would expect from a cheaper cruise. Ama could have provided a better experience (for instance, an actual wine tasting) if they were willing to pay for it. One of the lunches was at a facility built to feed people from cruise ships. The singer/piano player was really, really bad. Laughingly bad. I was also left wondering whether the Douro is worth a 7 day cruise. 4 or 5 seems sufficient.
