We choose this cruise for the itinerary. It was leaving from Boston and we don't live to far away. Also we had heard great things about Holland America. We loved the first 5 days of the cruise but the last two were where Holland America totally lost us. We loved the service, food and ship until the last two days. Two nights from the end of the cruise a pipe burst on our deck and 6 or 7 rooms not far from us were flooded. We heard others on another deck were also affected. They had to move the people on our deck at 4 am. They woke us up with all of the noises but at least we were dry. We had a fire alarm go off on one of the first nights of the cruise at 2 am and it ended up being a steam leak in the galley but alarms and speakers going off so wrecked up that night's sleep. The worst thing was that the ship started having propulsion problems before Quebec City which slowed us down so we were several hours late getting into that port. They worked on the problem while we were ashore and acted as if it was fixed but by dinner that night it was clear we were not going anywhere. They finally told us at 10pm we were not going to Montreal on the ship and were to be bused in the morning. When we showed up to disembark we were put into a yellow school bus for an estimated 3 hour ride which ended up being over 4 hours. No room for luggage or carryons. No room for knees. No room for senior citizens. When we got to the Montreal Port Terminal we had to wait for 40 minutes to unload because they were first loading up the next cruise guests for the next week and they had to get them to Quebec City. I was livid that they had the gall to make us wait in the parking lot (as we had already paid) so they could load up the new guests. We also found out that other guests got to be on nice air conditioned custom buses as they were waiting in the parking lot with us. We were supposed to disembark in Montreal at 8am. We didn't get to leave with our bags (had to wait on them as they came by u-haul truck as no room on a school bus) until 2pm. So pretty much whole day lost in touring Montreal due to riding on a bus and waiting at terminal and waiting on bags. Then we had to drag our bags several blocks aways from the terminal to get a ride as the taxi line was very long and not moving. But Holland America did give us a $50 pp credit for all of this situation so I guess in their minds they took care of us. Terrible communications on the issues. If they would have advised we were going to be stuck on a school bus I would have looked for a train, plane or automobile instead. Due t the issues on the boat, I also wonder whether this boat should be active right now. I'm no expert but it sounds like dry dock is where it should be.

I'd give the last 36 hours a 0 rating

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom
Cabin DA 2546
I would avoid this cabin due to noise issues. It is first cabin past stair landing on forward stairs of deck 2. It has a crew/store room across from it so banging doors all night when things needed. The cabin is attached to a storage area and one day it was the gangway at one port so lots of noise. Two nights the crew were taking a break and having a nice conversation time in the storage area but stopped before 11 pm.

  • Lobster Fishing
Lulu lobster boat for a little over 2 hours. Beautiful day, fun crew, learned a little about lobstering, saw the islands and a lighthouse. Very enjoyable. Also we had time to ramble around Bar Harbor, shop, walk around the coastal path and enjoy a nice lunch.

  • Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island)
For fans of the Anne series it is a must. The grounds are beautiful. The house is small and if busy it will be cramped. The crowds were fine the day we were there. The beach was very windy and cold and we only saw it from a lookout point. Worth seeing. Still had time to ramble around Charlottetown after tour and eat at Lobster on the Wharf close to the ship. We enjoyed our meal and would recommend it.

  • Peggy's Cove
Peggy's Cove extended time. We had wanted to go to Peggy's Cove for years. The lighthouse and ledges are amazing. The town has a nice few shops and tons of photo opportunities. Village is more rustic and quaint than anything . The church is worth seeing with several murals by a local artist and don't miss his museum and stone carving. We had lunch at Sou'Wester right across from the lighthouse and it was excellent. Great seafood.

  • City Tour
Trouble was that there was a marathon which started at the Olympic Stadium and our tour guide was bound and determined we would go and see the Stadium. It took forever. You can actually see the stadium from many spots in town so not sure it's worth spending too much time to go and see it.

  • Quebec City
Perfect for us. The walking tour was great and got to ride up the funicular to upper part of town. We enjoyed the carriage ride as it went out of the walls of town and to the Governor's House and fountains. We still had free time to get a bite to eat and shop.

  • The Bell Museum
Interesting museum of Alexander Graham Bell and his inventions which is more than the phone. Small museum but worth a trip if interested in him. The town is small and at least on our tour we only had 20 minutes for lunch so coffee and a pastry was all we could find besides a pizza place. The drive to and from is half the tour. I think it was 1 hour and 15 mins each way so that is a downside.
