  3. Celebrity Infinity
We have recently had a twelve night Italy, Adriatic & Spain cruise onboard the Celebrity Infinity, everything with the cruise was fine, food, staffing. accommodation, entertainment and service, not great but okay, around 7 marks out of 10 in our opinion. Then comes account settlement time and it all changes and goes downhill fast! The creative accounting system used by Celebrity mystified us somewhat, for example, each & every charge, hit the Visa card statement, within hours, which was fine, then at the end of the cruise we get a statement, which covered each item purchased Plus a mystery mini bar purchase, with a total amount owing. Then all of the individual items disappeared from the Visa card statement and were replaced with this total, which had increased again by another A$10, when it appeared on the Visa statement including the mystery mini bar purchase! What a coincidence, two of our travelling companions on deck nine, were also charged for a fictitious mini bar purchase, just like us, we wonder how many other travellers also were hit unknowingly with this mysterious mini bar purchase ? Three emails sent by us requesting more information on these additional charges, were totally ignored by Celebrity, this corporate arrogance is very ordinary for a supposably service oriented company. The staff must have been on good pay incentives regarding the ridiculously priced drinks packages, on the first day, every staff member we encountered, no matter what their position, tried to sell us a drinks package! Also in some ports, shuttle buses were provided from the ship into the various towns, prices varied from US$15 to 10 Euros per person, no prior warning on any literature that this was to be the case, not a big issue but again another unexpected hit to the back pocket. Our cabin safe had issues, there were no instructions & it never worked, our cabin attendant was asked three times to get it sorted, each time he replied that it had been reported to his boss! Nothing changed, so after a couple of days we went down & reported it to the Customer Relations desk on deck three, all details were taken but it still remained unusable to the end of the cruise. We figured they knew about it being a problem all along but continued to waste our time rather than being upfront and saying, we’re sorry there is an issue with that safe and that it cannot be fixed, we would have then understood. Then while the ship was in Spanish waters, there’s another 10% added to any drink purchased on top of the all ready “eye watering” inflated 20% gratuity, again no prior warning. Onboard internet access A$500 for 12 nights, what an insult to ones intelligence, we don’t pay that for a year’s internet connection at home. Question, would we ever use Celebrity again, probably not because we’re big on principle and these type of incidents, although minor in themselves, leave a bad taste in ones mouth, as there are more ethical cruise line companies around in our opinion to choose from. Would we recommend Celebrity to family & friends? Absolutely not until they lift their game and become more transparent with their dealings with customers.
