It was arranged by a local bus tour company and it was a dream of mine. My husband and I decided that life is too short to sit around waiting for the lottery. The ship was awesome and our cabin was comfortable and clean. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The dining was an experience in different tastes and an awesome and overwhelming journey. It was prepared well and it allowed us to experience different foods i.e. ate escargots for the first time and they were delicious. Anyone who said they were bored just were not taking advantage of what was available from bingo, bible study, casino, crafts, exercise, comedy acts and Broadway acts, etc. We also went on shore excursions in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway and they were all fun in their own way, Saw a good deal of country, spoke with many people and it was truly an awesome experience. The steward, Reinir was just a lovely individual who worked hard but was very genuine in his dealings with us. No phoniness about him. He was very good at giving us advice and directions about things on the ship and what was available. In the dining room we had Rhoderick and he guided us in an adventure in dining. Ate a variety of meals and they were second to no one. The chefs knew their way around a kitchen and the blends of flavours they used were out of this world. We ended our cruise in Seattle but prior to that we were in Victoria BC Canada. We arrived at 7 PM PST and it was beginning to darken soon after we embarked on a shuttle bus and we walked to Chinatown. If we had arrived at 4 PM the excursions others had taken would have been enjoyed a bit longer because the main complaint from others was they couldn't see anything because of the lack of light. ALL IN ALL for hubby and I it was a tremendous experience. The weather at times was abysmal but it's September in Alaska,,,rain and fog were a chance we took and we did not get to the TRACY fjord due to the dense thick fog and that was disappointing but safety was a factor and I am glad the Captain went on the side of safety.

Fantastic 1st cruise

Cabin Review

Cabin B329
Comfortable and clean. No issues with anything. Bathroom was perfect size. Water was hot and no complaints. We felt safe, comfortable and pampered, Laundry mat was down the hall and we did our laundry one day and again the day before we disembarked. Did not take long.We felt rested and relaxed after 7 days and we actually felt like we had been on vacation. We actually were ready to get back to the real world.

  • Gold Panning
Gold panning and a salmon bake. Very entertaining as well as a delicious feast of salmon cooked on a wood fired grill and all the fixings of potatoes, salad and blueberry cake. All the tea/coffee, lemonade and or beer you could want but it was the 4 pieces of salmon hubby enjoyed. Then a walk to a beautiful waterfall near an abandoned old mine and a creek that salmon were swimming up in order to spawn,

  • Ketchikan
Our tour guide, Joe Williams, a proud member of the Tlinglt tribe and former mayor led us on a walk through the community's downtown and explained totems and their significance and how they all tell a story. He also explained how Ketchikan was built on pilons of treated wood and how streets are steps to people's homes. All in all a very entertaining walk.

Taken to Liarsville by bus where we learned all about how it got its name and then panned for gold, which we got to keep and then off to a bus ride across the Continental Divide , which marks the official border between Yukon Territory in Canada and Alaska in US. Opportunities to see an Inukshuk which marked the border and the Welcome to Alaska sign. Got to see glaciers from afar and were delayed at the border coming back due to regulations and road work so they contacted our ship and they had to wait for us. That is the advantage to booking through the cruise line.

Friendly and helpful people all about us. Took the shuttle to Downtown and walked to Chinatown. Lovely to be able to walk and then came upon a store that was selling Italian gelatto and it was not on WW but I enjoyed it while waiting for the shuttle to take us back to the ship where we did a bit of shopping at the berth where various local artisans were selling their wares. All in all a good time.
