  • Cabin Type: Mid-Ship Oceanview Picture Window

When I started traveling on cruise ship years ago, a travel agent told me : the most important factor for a cruise is the SHIP, destination and ports are are not important. In this case the Dawn should not be on top of your list.

Lets start with the negative:

Embarkation is long process, cannot blame NCL its a private company who does all the work

Cabins: NOT confortable , small narrow no chair to sit bathroom has 3 section with 16 inches doors between each of them (take your measurements first)

As mentioned by many previous members the ship is outdated ....

Dining: hits and miss, no WOW .... too many "breaded meat or fish" the appetizers are practically the same every night, only the order changes and a few are replaced every night

Cabin attendant : I guess we had a "new guy on the job" never knew would do the cabin if we took a nap at 11:00 he would knock on the door, sometimes after lunch .... no steady schedule. NCL gives returning customer a bottle of sparkling wine NO glasses, we asked twice ..... Nothing

Now the good:

Have to admit the personnel (except security staff who take their job too seriously) is very nice always smiling Dining room. Buffet, bars

The shows are not too bad, its free - nothing to say.

the ports were interesting we didn't take any excursion, because of all bad experience in the past. shore excursion always end up being bus ride

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Oceanview Picture Window
Cabin OB 5566

the layout is narrow, no chair to sit little space between wall and the bed. The bathroom is narrow and badly designed

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

Quebec City

Saying the name Quebec says everything. Chateau Frontenac ...lower and upper town. I think its the closest you can get to Europ without crossing the Ocean. All the site are walking distance from the ship.

(long) tender trip - 30 - 40 minutes. nice village many shops to see, few mansions to visit prices vary from 18$ to 35$ . Better do your homework before visiting any mansion. they are reasonable walking distance from the port

always nice to visit Boston : quincy market- Harvard - Cheers - the town is an attraction in itself. Possible to walk from the ship to downtown, about 45 minutes "lovers speed"

Portland (Maine)

not much to see here downtown has their load of homeless people.

Nice to visit local brewery, the citadelle its a nice town to discover

Bar Harbor

we made a mistake booking the Acadia National Park tour. Short description it ia a 2.5 hours bus tour with 3 fifteen minutes stop (remove 5 minutes each stop for people disembarking .... to see what .... a gift shop .... some flowers and reef .

the best welcome of all ports. we could see the town has invest time an energy to welcome the passengers. Many people dressed as in old days .

Sydney (Nova Scotia)

we rented a car and went to (35 - 40 minutes drive) the Louisbourg forteresse . if you like history, many of the employees are dressed as in those times
