Having sailed on this ship some 18mths ago we were surprised at how some parts of the cabins had deteriorated in particular 5022 Last year we could not fault them after all this was a comparatively new ship but has gone downhill since The shower recess had mould. Now it would not take much to remove it but in the 21days it was not. Our steward was lovely but they are pushed to the limits so cleaning mould was not part of his cleaning schedule. Our friends shower was the same..yet other people we spoke to said they had no issues. The doona was marked as to was the lounge, the TV did not work nor did the phone for a day or two, which meant we were missing any bridge communications. The common areas were still maintained to a standard. The dining room menu was varied & most of the meals very good. Lido is still the usual scrum and finding a table at peak times is like winning the lottery as it is on most cruise lines which is why we opt for the dining room for breakfast & dinner. Wine list on this cruise was not to a standard with a very nice wine only available in the dining room. Why all bars did not offer this was beyond us. Most wine by the glass $11USD + gratuity which should be at the discretion of each guest not automatically added but the drinks waiters we most times well deserved of it anyway Entertainment on HAL ships is below par. Guests were walking out during performances Shore Excursions: Mostly very good & at times well organised just more info prior would be helpful. If anyone gets a chance to go to Monaco and they offer a cruise to EZE DO IT!!! This old fortress & village was amazing, just be prepared for some uphill climbing but so worth it. TIP: If you do not do a ships shore excursion but still wish to go out & about HIRE a taxi. Talk to them re a price & length of time you wish to spend out & about. We did this a couple of times & so worth it. Embarkation & disembarkation was smooth & effortless. We actually embarked earlier than allotted as it was a back to back As with most cruises you met some wonderful people (we met mostly Aussies) shared some great experiences & were attended by some great staff.

  • Athens (Piraeus)
Took a ferry to Island of Aegina off Athens. Wanted to see outside of Athens & glad we did. Busy little town small narrow lanes full of shops & restaurants.

  • Ephesus
We have seen a number of ancient ruins & these had to be the some of the best apart from Egypt.
Ephesus was amazing. The marble walkways alone, then to come on to the Library wow! then to know Cleopatra formed a romantic & political alliance with Mark Anthony there. A lot of slippery walking so beware. Then into Kusadasi for free time. Loved this town but beware the fakes (jewellery perfumes shoes etc etc) but some lovely shopping can be had for genuine items & there are shops galore

  • House of the Virgin Mary
Ok but due to it being a religious day it was packed. Glad our tour got us in early as the lines became very long & in the heat very tiring no doubt. Nothing much else there as few souvo shops

  • Island of Delos
This was one of the worst of the excursions. It was a very hot day & the tour was way too long they should have cut it short due to the heat. Parts interesting enough but seriously not worth it
Rough ferry ride out & back
Left tour in town as wanted to see more of Mykonos glad we did.Quaint alleyways beautiful white painted buildings with splashes of brilliant colours. Shops & eateries abound. Again we wish we had more time here.
Picked tour back up & drove to a nice place where lunch was supplied

  • Sorrento
Loved Sorrento. So wish again we had more time here. Some of the views on the tour were amazing. Stopped at a timber inlay shop not at all interesting to us anyway. Lunch was supplied in a lovely restaurant off one of the many market streets in Sorrento
Then onto Pompeii. Again not as we suspected. The mummified bodies at the start were amazing but also sad to see. The artifacts that have been unearthed also amazing but the old city not so. While parts would have been enough again it was way too hot & too long. Pick your seasons to visit.

  • Rhodes Old Town
This is a trolley tour which took us around the old town & the Masters Palace refurbished by Mussolini. A few steep steps to climb in palace but worth it. Left tour in town. Great place again many shops & restaurants
