The Viking Sun is ideal in every way. The ship’s design and furnishings are luxurious, while restrained. Definitely not over the top, like many cruise ships. With about 900 passengers it was easy to find quiet places on the ship whenever desired.
We found service and dining to be excellent. The itinerary was excellent, though the weather was sometimes uncooperative. The west coast of Norway is beautiful as were the northern islands of Scotland. In general, included shore excursions were interesting and well organized. Predictably, Edinburgh was overrun with tourists which detracted from our experience. The on board lecturers were knowledgeable and interesting. The on board entertainment was the only area that wasn’t great. Considering the small size of the ship, this isn’t surprising.
Check in was a breeze and embarkation in Bergen was very smooth. We spent an extra night in Bergen and enjoyed it. Our hotel was the Radisson Blu, which was in ideally located in Bergen’s historic harbor. Disembarkation in London was well organized, but our morning flight required that we meet for airport transportation at 3:30 AM! Short night.
