Sail Date: Apr 2010

We arrived at the port early, about 12:30 for a 5:00 sailing. The traffic going into Cape Liberty was very heavy. RCI has got to work on that. Parking was very easy. Check-in was a breeze, and in no time at all we were having our picture taken on the gangway. From check-in to boarding it was maybe 10-15 minutes. Our cabin was ready at 1:30. As in the past there was plenty of room for two people. We had a balcony on deck 8 just aft of the hump. We meet our stateroom attendant Susan, who took great care of us for the 5 day cruise. Muster went off smoothly, especially now that you are not required to wear life jackets. Before you knew it we were standing on the heli-pad watching the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano bridge go by. At our first dinner we met our waiter Randolph who as always very helpful. The food was very good, and always a wide selection. We were on a wine plan and the selections we had to choose from were very good. The shows I thought were just all right. I slept through most of them except the ice show. That was very good. After the show we headed into the cigar lounge for what became our nightly ritual. The attendant in there was named Kevin. You couldn't have asked for a more attentive and courteous server. He always made sure our cigars were lit and our drinks were full be it a Martini or a cognac. Every night as I left he always gave me a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries and told me "Bring these to your wife." He always provided a good end to the day. Now, let me address the "rockin' and rollin'" part of this cruise. About 5 hours after we left the wind started blowing and the rain started falling. As a result the ship started rocking. Sometimes side to side, sometimes front to back. Sometimes both! There were piles of puke-bags all over the ship. Although I never saw anybody get sick, many people told me their wife or husband was sea-sick. I found the motion very relaxing and let it rock me to sleep every night. We got into King's Wharf, Bermuda right on time. The weather was partly cloudy and very breezy. We took the ferry to Hamilton and the bus to St. George's. We did some shopping and watched the townspeople "dunk a wench". We caught a bus back to Hamilton and had some lunch. The girls did what they do best: shop! We grabbed another ferry back to the ship and had enough time for a nap before dinner. One more day in Bermuda. We went to the Maritime Museum right at King's Wharf. It was very interesting. There was a snorkel park next door so we went there for a bit. Anyone that says Bermuda is just like the Caribbean has never been in the water! While it is crystal clear and blue, it is also a little on the cool side! I'm sure that it will warm up during the summer. We left Bermuda at 5:00 that afternoon and headed back for home. As soon as we were out of the harbor the rocking and rolling started again. The pukebags made their appearance again. Because of the motion the only pool that was filled was the adult pool in the Solarium. They decided to let children use it because it was the only pool available. Not being partial to children I thought it was better if I left the area. I went and took a nice steam instead. All good things must come to an end. Next thing I knew I was standing on deck watching the Statue of Liberty get closer and closer. I remember thinking that this is what my grandparents must have seen almost 100 years ago. Disembarking went nice and easy. Before you knew it we were home with our cat and dog.
