Although I am a Platinum cruiser with Princess it had been a long time since I last sailed with them. As I booked a VERY last minute cruise to Alaska we literally had the last ocean view cabin (Plaza 202) on the ship--all the way forward. My concerns, however, mostly proved to be unfounded--yes we heard the anchor a couple of times but no we didn't hear the theater--yes, the laundry was a few doors down but we not only never heard it nor saw much activity, it actually turned out to be a huge advantage (who gets to return home with a suitcase full of freshly washed clothing :). The cabin steward, Anthony, was outstanding which was impressive considering his 10 years on the job. He checked in on us always with a warm smile and worked very hard to insure our cabin was sparkling and our needs met. Having mostly sailed in balconies on high floors I had forgotten the advantages of simply strolling from cabin directly to the center of activities--from a delicious and varied menu at the coffee bar (pastries, yes, but also lunch and dinner items with a large and always varied menu. There was also a wine bar nearby that featured tapas and wine flights, and plenty of comfortable tables to enjoy the remarkable scenery. The Star Princess also impressed with and one of the most creative and delicious dining room menus we've ever experienced (much better than a recent Celebrity sailing) as well. We adored the naturalist presentations and I had never seen so many folks working out at a cruise gym in 30+ sailings--lots of speciality offerings as well. The massages we had were both wonderful and yet different (international staff) and we appreciated the special coupons distributed for a birthday. We also enjoyed the naturalist presentations and bucket list shore excursions that were very well done (helicopter and ice hiking on a glacier, sea plane landing in absolute serenity surrounded by waterfalls, etc.). I also saw that Princess truly goes the extra mile missing with so many even upscale lines--from champagne fountains to a visually beautiful and delicious Alaskan brunch to a balloon drop and a wonderful presentation from the first woman to win the Iditarod--Princess continued to impress. Lastly, when a problem cropped up I was contacted immediately by the customer relations manager Gianluca, who was the consummate professional--he met me in person, offered a considerable amount of time to listen and really express his concern and desire to make things right --another rare occurrence in the industry. Princess made a "new" convert--we will be returning soon.
