My family and I chose this cruise because we wanted to cruise southbound from Seward to Vancouver. We liked the ports that were included and the available dates.
Embarkation went very smoothly which was great because we were all very tired (fires north of Anchorage caused us to drive thru the night).
We were in a mini-suite with a balcony on deck 11. We were under the Spa and the cabin was very quiet and close to everything at the front of the ship. With 4 of us in the cabin it was very cozy, the balcony helped us feel like there was additional room. The bathroom was spacious. I didn't care for the bathtub/shower combination. It was a very high step to get into the shower. I think older/handicapped cruisers would have a hard time with this setup.
Overall the food was good. Didn't seem to be much variation from night to night in the main dining areas or O'Sheehans. Since we were cruising Alaska it would have been nice to have some fresh seafood options. I understand that the menu isn't tailored to the itinerary,
Dan the cruise director was very nice. The staff was very good at remembering our names and was very friendly, We stayed busy while we were on the ship between bingo, trivia and other games that we played. The entertainment was okay, we are not really into dancing and musical productions. We did not care for Mr. Carl Strong's comic routine.
We booked excursions thru NCL and were happy with them. Everything was run smoothly and efficiently,
Disembarkation went smoothly as we carried our own bags and left after we had breakfast.
While we enjoyed our time aboard the Jewel, we do not plan to repeat this itinerary. Alaska was beautiful, but our next vacation will be to someplace we haven't been.
The cruise port was close to the main area of town and there was a free shuttle that made 10 stops between the port and points of interest.
Bus driver Jimmy Dalton was very informative about the area. The ride to the top of the hill took us thru the main area of town. Zip line was high and very fast.View All 51 Zip-lining Reviews
We had never been on a helicopter before and figure this was a great opportunity to see the Mendenhall Glacier up close. The whole experience was excellent and well run. It was very cold and windy on the glacier....be sure to pack gloves and hats!View All 138 Helicopter Tour Reviews
The train ride was great. Goldbeard was very entertaining. Really appreciated the bottle of water and snacks provided as it was a very long excursion. The sled dog demonstration was great also. The puppies were so cute. We will be watching to see how Kaci and her team do in next year's Iditarod race. The gold panning was pretty hokey as was the time in the 40 below chamber. All in all it was a great excursion.View All undefined undefined Reviews
We were not able to explore much of Vancouver. One of our group had an early flight out and the rest of us stayed at a hotel near the airport. The light rail system was great for getting to the the airport area. We could have ridden it back downtown, but we were all too worn out to muster the energy to do it.
Emily did a great job spotting wildlife while we were on the boat. We saw eagles, a bear and dolphins. The crab was very tasty and plentiful. The cheesecake was very good also.View All 129 Wilderness Tour & Crab Feast Reviews
