Veendam is in very good condition overall given her age. The crew were always polite and helpful, no matter how busy they were. Our cabin steward SAN was always smiling and ready to assist.
HAL appears to have an austerity drive in place. The quality and variety of the food was not up to the standard we experienced on Nkordam in 2014. The same dishes kept appearing day after day. The roast meats were always served rare (still bleeding), With no option for those who prefer meat to be cooked through. The tableware (plastic drinking cups) were all grungy and looked unclean as did the cutlery. The table service crew were obviously distressed by this, searching for the cleanest they could find on the trays, but it was out of their control.
No complaints ts except the complimentary toiletries (shampoo, shower lotion etc) were not replaced after the second day.
The Gibraltar Taxi Servuce Tour took us everywhere in an 8 seat airconditiobed van which was small enough to climb the narrow, winding roads to the peaks of the Rock which the cruise line tours busses can't. One third the price too!
