We have sailed on a number of HAL cruises and this was our first time on the Westerdam, one week Alaska Inside Passage followed by a one week land tour. The Westerdam was remodeled last year and we were impressed with the tasteful decor, (except the odd colorful benches on each floor by the elevators). The decor is understated elegance, neutral colors, with many comfortable public spaces to relax. Our mini-suite 6190 was very roomy, more storage than I could fill, lots of room between the bed and the furnishings. Bathroom was also very large, double sink, separate shower and jetted bathtub. A wall of closets/shelves too. Once of the nicest staterooms we've had in our 14 cruises. Food was very good though the service in the dining room for dinner was a bit slow. Entertainment also exceeded our expectations with the exception of the HAL dancers/singers who's performances were a bit too theatrical rather than light and upbeat (this is the fault of the director, not the singers). The public spaces did not feel crowded, perfect size ship for our sailing. The EXC presentations on the Iditarod, Whales and Salmon were excellent as were the cooking classes presented by the chef for America's Test Kitchen. Very enjoyable cruise and highly recommend this ship for an Alaskan cruise.
