Choose this trip partly because of the date I was free to go, but also had wanted to go out of Tampa, see Key West again, and visit Roatan. So was largely destination oriented.

Weather was horrible at embarkation and somewhat again on leaving. We were impressed with how smoothly the staff handled the challenging conditions.

Were in a small storm overnight, almost didn't get to dock in Key West. Again they did a great job of checking weather forecast and getting with all the appropriate people on shore to move our whole time up by 3 hours I believe it was.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

I thought I would like the Lanai deck even in an oceanview cabin because it was just right at the entrance to go on deck. Wrong! Very noisy on several occasions as crews moved deck chairs or equipment around, sometimes very late or very early. Also they don't tell you that most deck chairs are all reserved for the Lanai rooms and we could not find a place to sit where we could even see the water. Won't do that again...

Port Reviews

Santo Tomas de Castilla

Ugly port, surrounded by razor wire. The 'building' for local crafts was stifling hot and vendors very aggressive with little to no English, and of course cash only.

We thought we would be okay with a nice excursion to Amatique Bay Resort. Not! This may qualify as my worst shore excursion ever! First, the water taxis are FAST, especially going back. I've been on boats all my life and not afraid of water, but I do NOT think these guys were responsible in how they drove these loaded vessels over sometimes choppy water. Be prepared to get quite wet.

The only good part of the tour was the kayak part. Those guys did an okay, though brief display of how to use the boats, and excellent job of ensuring everyone got in and out safely, and then mostly laughed at us on the trip. Really nothing to see. Just scuffy jungle on boring, canal type 'river', no wildlife other than iquanas at the take out point.

After that it went even more downhill...rude guy at the 'resort'...herding everyone around, not letting us get drinks, or explore. We were supposed to get 'ample time to enjoy the beach, large pool and swim up bar" By the time we were back from kayak, and finally got a drink, we barely had 20 minutes to drink that and rest a few minutes, before they were yelling at us to get back on boat. And there was no reason we all had to leave. there were several events all leaving from same place and boats (water taxis) running back and forth almost continuously. It could very easily have been a shuttle service with time allowed for us to actually relax. The whole experience was so bad, it's turned me off to amost the whole country at time time. Don't go!
