My partner and I took a Viking Rhine River cruise last September, the usual half-price but super expensive offer. Never again. (1) The service was great. (2) Food okay-good. (3) The included wines not good, so you're likely (encouraged?) to buy the pricier options. (4) The free tours are adequate-good but too early--"everybody, get ready to board bus at 8:00"--so you're likely (encouraged?) to choose pricy later tours. (5) Onboard talks and entertainment adequate. (6) The messaging in between: a constant commercial to sign up for other cruises, the more expensive tours or Viking merchandise. (7) The ship got stuck on a sandbar 100 ft from the dock; many hours later a tugboat got us unstuck; The incident was poorly handled in terms of informing passengers and compensating for the inconvenience. (9) Few days to see Rhine: sailing at night between ports so except for castle segment there was little explanation of what we passed. (8) The brochures never ever stop coming no matter how often or to whom you complain--spamming. Never again.
