We hgad an amazing trip on NCL Jade 30th June. We originally booked IX cabin and got allocated 1E deck 4 midship almost immediately/8 months out. Price drop at 90 days we were offered oceanview or $ back. We took the $ and then bid on upgrade. Our friends were successful at 60 days and got B1 aft. We got the sorry no upgrade 48 hours before we departed Rome. We were really happy with our inside on 4 and it was so easy to get off at our 9 ports.

The ship and crew were amazing. Some people can be rude, but we find it we interact with them, ask them about themselves and their family it makes it really enjoyable. The food was good, the entertainment was great and we did not have any issues at all.

Embarkation was so easy. We arrived at 11am after a Cabs Roma shared shuttle. We were on the ship by 11.20am and were able to leave our hand luggage in cabin and meet our cabin steward. Bags did not arrive until around 5pm which was ok so take what you need for the afternoon.

Cabin IE

Cabin was comfortable and enough room to store luggage. Pulman bed for our 14yr old worked ok.

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

We arrived 2 days before cruise, did all the usual tourist things and then got a shared shuttle to port on the day of cruise. $85 for 3 of us

Santorini

You line up first day at sea for tender boat ticket time. There was no real wait and we were number 8. You get off at deck 4 and they stop elevators while they board. We did self planned tour. Tender boat to shore, we got fast boat to Oia $15 which included 2 buses, we walked 300m up hill to get bus into Oia. Spent 4 hours, then bus to Fira for sightseeing. Then we lined up for cable car rand paid for our eturn to ship

Athens (Piraeus)

We were approached by taxi drivers wanting up to $200 to drive us to Acropolis and wait for us, we declined even when price dropped to $120. We got local bus right near port to acropolis $3. As we had not pre booked tickets for entry there was a really long que. We were approached by local tour guide who can buy your tickets and do her tour for extra $20 on top of the price of entry. We chose to do this option as it got us in quicker. It was 40deg and so busy. We then walked around Plaka historic neighbourhood.

Mykonos

Another tender to get to port. It is beautiful and so easy to walk around. We did self tour by walking up towards windmills and got local bus $1.80 to paradise beach and stayed for a few hours. We then paid $15 to get fast boat back to port so we could have more time walking around and enjoying all the beautiful shops and had some amazing gyros.

Rhodes

We arranged self tour with Romantika Day Tours. It was a 10 min walk from port. We had 3 stops at beaches where we jumped off boat for swim and snorkelled at the last stop. It was so much fun. They supplied a feast for lunch of seafood, rolls, salads, chicken, vegetables and as much beer wine and soft drinks and water as you wanted. It was such a great day and on return we had enough time to walk around Malta town and the shops for gelato

Malta (Valletta)

Self tour - walking around Malta. Unfortunately it was sunday and most of the places were shut. We were able to walk around and they also had some hop on hop off buses and carts that would have been good to do.

Taormina (Messina)

Self tour by local taxi. We were approached on arrival by taxi driver and we wanted to go to Taormina. We paid $30per person for 7 of us to take us both ways and wait 3 hours. Being on deck 4 we were straight off the ship and on our way. We then added another stop at Savoca where they filmed the Godfather so total was $45 per person. Taormina was lovely, it had amazing street food and gelato.

Naples

Cruise transfer to Pompei then return. On arrival we wasted time being shown a cameo shop when we would have been better lining up for tickets. We should have pre purchased to make entry quicker. Que was not moving over 30 mins and they serve 3 guides for every 1 tourist to purchase tickets. We took option of local guide who purchased our tickets quicker and we paid $20 on top of entry for tour as we were on tight schedule with return bus. We then got bus into naples for some shopping and pizza.

Florence (Livorno)

Pre booked local car. Avis had counter at port. After doing paperwork we then got shuttle bus to collect car and it was a breeze. Drove to Pisa. Could have done the walk at 1 but it quickly sold out until 6 so book tickets if you want to do the stairs. We then drove to Lucca and had a few hours and lunch at the walled town.
