I choose NCL for the extra percks included like the bar package and specialty dining and the Joy because it was new, big and went out of Seattle. I have been on several cruises but this was my first on NCL and this was my husbands first ever. I wanted a ship that had a lot to do so he would never be bored.
I was nervous because there were no reviews before I booked it and once they started coming in it wasn't looking good. But as I started reading them it seemed like some people just wanted to complain or did not go in with the correct mindset.
This ship holds 4,000 people! It is going to get crowded at times but I never really experienced some of the issues previous travelers had. Getting on and off was fairly easy. There really wasn't that bad of a wait for the elevators, we usually took the stairs if going down and the elevator if going more than 5 floors up. When we got back on from the ports we would walk up 2 flights and had no problem getting an elevator there.
It was tight but also expected. There is lots of storage and room under the bed for your luggage. 2 USB ports on the lights next to bed were great to have for charging our phones.
We didn't book anything here as it was a very short day. When we got off the ship we paid for a shuttle to the Mendenhall Glacier. It was $45/person and the shuttle ran every 20 min. This was such a great option because we were on our own time and not a tour groups time. This allowed us to walk around and explore Juneau a little.
Not sure why the boat stops here- it's a 30 min ferry ride from Seattle. Would have much rather seen Vancouver. Also doesn't get in until 4pm when it could get there earlier. We walked around for a couple hours to say we went but didn't see the point in spending money on dinner and drinks in town when we already paid for that on the ship.
