We chose the Celebrity Edge as soon as bookings were available as we fell for all the hype. We were extremely disappointed in this ship. It is so disjointed and totally unlike any other Celebrity ship. There are weird venues onboard such as The Eden which is a mish-mash of greenery, Avatar type personnel wandering about in weird outfits, plants hanging everywhere. To get to this you have to walk through a blacked-out mirrored room with black glass walls and partitions and black sparkly Perspex tree trunks! On exiting this space you are in a normal area with a high-end Tiffany store and the suite guest dining room. What is the point of that? The Sky Lounge has been removed and all the front of the ship is reserved for suite guests and unavailable to non-suite guests. The very expensive cabanas are all located in the shade alongside the pool and right alongside a main through route to the Mast Grill and elsewhere so you would have no privacy if you paid for a cabana as other passengers are constantly walking by. Hand sanitising is not enforced in eating venues. The theatre is just another venue for poor stage acts. Not like a theatre at all as the backdrop consists of panels that have holograms projected on to them. No typical theatrical scenery or stage settings. No quality acts are brought onboard. Our stateroom was beautifully furnished but the balcony is miniscule!! 2 small chairs are provided that have to be placed at an angle as, if you tried to place them looking straight forward, you would not be able to get your legs in front of the chair. The table that is provided is already showing signs of bad weather damage. You cannot sunbathe on your balcony as it is too small. We heard many passengers complaining about the infinite balconies which are not a balcony at all - just a completely enclosed extension of your room with an opening window which the Captain can close if necessary. No coat hooks in the stateroom other than on the back of the bathroom door. What do you do with coats? The wardrobe space is small. A chest of drawers has been sited in the wardrobe so you lose half the floor space which you would use for shoes. There is an immovable bar halfway down one side of the wardrobe which gets in the way of hanging items. Another point to add is that the large TV is sited on the wall at the bottom of the bed. The angle cannot be adjusted so unless you are on the bed you cannot watch it. The basin in the bathroom is too long so countertop space is lost. The shower has a curved shower door so that when opened the water on the inside of the shower door runs off onto the floor. A full length mirror is provided in the stateroom but the dressing table goes across it so you cannot see yourself full length. The dressing table has been designed to slide into the top of the fridge cabinet but this means you have to clear the surface of the dressing table each time to use the mirror. There are several hidden storage areas but these are within the curved ends of the wardrobe so the shelves inside are a difficult shape to store items on. We had trouble with customer relations. Our onboard spend did not appear onto our account until 36hours before the end of our cruise. This was despite us visiting customer relations and telephoning them each day. We were given a sheet one evening advising us of flamenco dancers being onboard the next evening at 8.15pm. The display actually started at 8pm so we missed half of it. Excursion tickets we had booked for Valdermossa at 2.30pm showed a departure time of 11.45am. Our disembarkation vouchers showed a time of 7.45am but the accompanying letter showed a time of 8.15am. We were charged twice for 2 photos. There are no onboard sales as on other Celebrity ships i.e. bags, scarves, local handicrafts etc. The only shops are all high-end i.e. Tiffany, Bulgari etc. There are no reasonably priced items in any of the shops. The Grand Plaza in the centre of the ship houses the Martini Bar with a very small dance floor where the house band are sited. The noise from this area is unbelievable! Several of the specialty dining areas are above this Plaza so your meal would be ruined. We were at The Rooftop Garden Grill one evening. The food was excellent and we were enjoying our evening until the film started. The screen is sited here so once the dialogue and music commence for the film you can forget any conversation with your partner. We were also told by other guests that seagulls are a problem at this dining venue. We found that there were inconsistent charges relating to drinks. We had a Classic drinks package. Sometimes we were charged for drinks not included in this package and other times not charged.

The ship does not 'flow' evenly from one area to the next. There are very few areas where you can sit quietly. The library has gone. We really missed the Sky Lounge - that area now houses the gym (and all Retreat suite guest amenities) so fitness fanatics can view the ocean and ports of call but ordinary guests cannot. We did not like the dividing-up of the main dining room into 4 other dining venues. They all looked the same. The evening meal in these venues was just like an ordinary meal in a nice restaurant at home and, apart from the food, not an enjoyable experience. None of them were designed to relate to the countries they were named after. You cannot have a rapport with your waiter or other guests if you are constantly seated at different tables. The loss of the main dining room means that your 'special' dining experience and Wow factor has been lost. The Oceanview Café still had a wonderful selection of food. The pool is a nightmare. It is a large oval pool (no children's pool) with a surrounding ledge with formed loungers on the ledge. There were so many children on this cruise that they completely took over the pool - running, jumping, dive bombing, splashing. It was impossible to swim. We were seated on the sofas by the Pool Bar one day and were hit 3 times by a wet ball that was being thrown around in the water by the kids. They also commandeered the hot tubs. On hot sea days, apart from the children taking over the pool, numerous adults were using it 'Las Vegas' style i.e. standing in the water with their drinks! This is due to the pool being virtually of one depth encouraging groups of people to stand in the water drinking alcohol. However, the staff, food and service was still of a high standard, although on other Celebrity ships we have been used to the Captain making several daily announcements including numerous quips. This did not happen on The Edge. The cruise director, who we have encountered before, was not as interactive as others we have encountered on other Celebrity ships. He had no personality or charisma. We are regular Celebrity cruisers but we would not book another cruise on the Edge or any of her sister ships. This ship is expensive and not good value. Celebrity seem to be trying to attract a younger clientele as there were a large number of teenagers and younger people on this cruise who were obviously delighted in the large nightclub on board. We are booked on Celebrity Silhouette in September which we have cruised on before. We just hope that Celebrity do not change their Solstice Class ships and Millenium Class ships too much in line with The Edge as we would not want to have to consider another cruise line.

Palma de Mallorca (Majorca)

We were due to go to Valdermossa and booked 2 tickets for 2.30pm departure. When we received our tickets these showed a departure time of 11.45am which was not suitable for us so we cancelled.
