We chose this particular cruise on the Edge as we were intrigued by Celebrity's newest ship and the ports on this 10 day adventure were fabulous (Naples, Mallorca, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Santa Margherita, La Spezia and Rome). We read many critics of the new ship design (specifically the Infinite Verandah - that we had booked) but we boarded with an open mind.
CABIN - 7126 - Infinite Verandah - Category E-1
Cruising is a very subjective vacation and I recognize that some people who like to sit on their balcony every morning may not like the Infinite Verandah, but we absolutely loved the new cabin design. When the window was open we felt like we not only had a verandah, but it was more private than a normal one, with no noise from our neighbors. When it was closed we had the extra square footage in our cabin to use. The bathroom/shower was the best of any ship we have been on for a standard balcony. We had 4 in the cabin and while it was tight the cabin design made it just fine. They have crafted storage in good places and the inclusion of the charging box for your devices and USB ports on one side of the king sized bed, was fabulous. It is tight between the bed and the closet but I would not trade the king bed for a queen for more room.
Cinque Terre was a bucket list place for us and it didn't disappoint. We hiked from Monterosso to Vernazza (hard hike - 2 hours up steep hills and down into Vernazza). The hike was hard but spectacular. Lunch in Vernazza right on the water was amazing, followed by a boat ride back to La Spezia with each village more beautiful from the sea than the next.
We actually docked in Santa Margherita. This little town, next to Portofino, is gorgeous. We walked, shopped and ate lunch in this little village. Great day.
One of our favorites. We took the 112 bus to Eze Village and toured the Fragonard Perfume factory (my wife's favorite perfume) and then had lunch and shopped in Eze village which is magical. We then went back to Monte Carlo and gambled in the Grand Casino and shopped. A great day.
We toured Sagrada Familia (including tour of Nativity Façade which is extra and well worth the money - book in advance as this sells out). We also toured Barcelona F.C. stadium which the boys loved. It was a city holiday our second day in town which was a bummer as everything except food and drinks were closed.
Segway tour of the island. 14 year olds loved it. Lot of fun.
Toured Pompeii, which was larger than we expected. Fascinating area and a high recommend from our entire group.
We stayed in Rome 2 days post cruise and toured the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hills. It was a hot day but our guide was marvelous. We also did the early entry tour of the Vatican which was amazing.
