The Celebrity Summit has just come out of dry dock and has had a terrific makeover. Folk say that she is now similar in some ways to the Edge, on which we have not yet sailed. The ship is handsome, the decor very soothing with a calm, serene, sophisticated aura. The cabins, in particular, are nicely done in beige tones. Lots of storage space. Sadly, no coffee table so room service is a challenge! The bathrooms are sleek but tight and their compactness could be an issue for some passengers. We weren't overly happy with the new configuration of the Oceanview Cafe. There seems to be more seating so finding a seat is not usually a problem but it always felt a little chaotic as passengers tried to navigate the various stations. There are a number of attractive bars, none of them ever overcrowded. Unfortunately, there seems to be no game or card room and, sad to note, no library to speak of (there is a miserable book nook in one of the lounges with about thirty books in a number of languages that is really unsatisfactory); this seems to totally ignore the likes and wishes of many of the passengers. Folk are now spread out on the ship playing board games and cards, occupying necessary space, for example, in the Oceanview Cafe. There is one small lounge next to Sushi on Five which was never, ever occupied which would have made a nice place for a library or cards. This entertainment aspect was not well thought out but seems to be a trend, assuming everyone is now content to be on their electronic devices. The on board entertainment on Celebrity continues to disappoint, never rising above the mediocre. However, on this sailing, praise to Anne Steele and Ric Steel (not related; they performed on separate evenings) two exceptional entertainers - above par! Our major disappointment was the cuisine in the Cosmopolitan Restaurant. Dining is usually a big plus on Celebrity but not on this occasion. Curiously, the food was just acceptable on the first five or six nights, never better than okay. Suddenly on, perhaps, day six the food improved significantly and was up to the expected Celebrity standards. It seemed quite peculiar and we couldn't find any logical reason for that; it was unfortunate that the first nights were really underwhelming. As always, the dining room staff was delightful. We must single out Branco, our Sommelier - he's just great! And the matre'd, Vitaly, does a commendable job. Our cabin attendant was excellent and we never wanted for anything. Embarking and disembarking at Cape Liberty was smooth and super easy.

Cabin Review

Ocean View 4

The cabins are beautiful. We especially loved the extra storage space. However not having a coffee table is a problem, especially for those wanting room service. Bathrooms are elegant but small. Our attendant was excellent.
