Wanted the land tour along with our repeat of the cruise portion from years before. Found the accommodations at the Princess Cruise lodges in Denali, Fairbanks and McKinley somewhat primitive, but certainly adequate. The one night in Anchorage was at the Captain Cook Hotel and found the facility and of superior quality. A great 5 stars for them. We recommend that in the Princess Hotels that room refrigerators and safes should have been part of the lodgings and would have been greatly appreciated. The food at the 3 Princess Lodges was very expensive and not good. We expected the expensive part. The paddle boat tour included in Fairbanks was wonderful and remined us of a Disney tour. The included lunch was very good. The tour in Denali Park was also top notch and greatly appreciated.

It has been a few years since we cruised with Princess and were disappointed in what we thought to be a slide backwards in quality. We attributed it to its acquisition by the Carnival Cruise line. We were use to Celebrity and Princess was a let down from what we experienced in the past. We were on the beverage package and were surprised there were no sommeliers. The included wines had only one wine on each of the red or white wine categories. The wines on the red side were largely undrinkable with only the red blend as tolerable. Of course when they quickly ran out of the red blend they were quick to try to talk us into paying for a higher priced substitute. In Celebrity the substitute would have been offered at no additional cost. The wines are not poured in front of you but provided pre poured. We could only tell the wines were bad after we had a full glass of wine. The wines were always served in small dinky glasses that were not designed to let the wine breath. All complaints to the dining staff were for the most part ignored. I had to to go the beverage director via the front desk as the Assistant Maître de refused to identify management staff. Overall, we felt we were on a third class ship. The activities onboard were the usual including trivia. The entertainment was of the standard variety, some we felt was not worth attending. The cabin attendant did an excellent job. The food on board, even in the dining room was average to poor. The buffet food was cold and lacked variety.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BF

Cabin was at the very front of the ship. Excellent view forward. Drawback was this cabin was near the bridge and the crew went by our door frequently during the night and was a bit noisy.

Port Reviews

Anchorage

Walked around the city and took a tour bus around town. Earthquake park was interesting.

Glacier Bay

Saw 3 to 4 glaciers.

Juneau

Great guides, but ziplines were crowded and the lines were short and slow. Not recommended.

Ketchikan

Good shopping.
