Grand Princess Cruise Review by ETSanJose
- Sail Date: May 2019
- Destination: Alaska
- Cabin Type: Balcony
We like the Grand Princess even though an older ship because the staff is pleasant and we like the Princess cultural programs and activities such as the Captain's champagne waterfall and Captain's Cocktail Party for previous cruisers. We like the food, the service and often the entertainment--the party band on this cruise was very good (Fee Fee and the Sentiments) and the Naturalist, Tess Juliana, is excellent.
We had a 12th floor aft balcony so it is convenient to the buffet and has a covered balcony. On this trip we had trouble with our room thermostat, but we finally had it completely replaced. We started asking our steward on the second or third day and an electrician came twice. We ended up going to the front desk after several days and a supervisor verified that it needed fixing, then it worked properly. We requested and hand held shower attachment and it was waiting for us when we got on board.
We were gifted two specialty restaurant dinners from our travel agent so ate in Sabatini's for my husband's birthday and it was wonderful. The food in the Crown grill was very good but it was much more crowded, so I preferred Sabatini's.
Going North along the coast toward Alaska the seas were pretty rough the entire first night, enough to wake me up, but after that we never had much rocking. The scenery and weather on this trip were absolutely wonderful. We went to Juneau and then Hubbard Glacier first, then Haines and Ketchikan, ending in Victoria before heading home.

Typical size room and bathroom. Beds together for Queen size, very comfortable. We got the thermostat fixed for the next customers.
