Sail Date: May 2019
Cabin: Balcony

We chose this particular sailing because we wanted to have the ease of leaving from San Francisco (again) on a familiar ship and we wanted to visit Hubbard Glacier, which was everything we had hoped for, and Haines, a beautiful little Alaskan town.

We like the Grand Princess even though an older ship because the staff is pleasant and we like the Princess cultural programs and activities such as the Captain's champagne waterfall and Captain's Cocktail Party for previous cruisers. We like the food, the service and often the entertainment--the party band on this cruise was very good (Fee Fee and the Sentiments) and the Naturalist, Tess Juliana, is excellent.

We had a 12th floor aft balcony so it is convenient to the buffet and has a covered balcony. On this trip we had trouble with our room thermostat, but we finally had it completely replaced. We started asking our steward on the second or third day and an electrician came twice. We ended up going to the front desk after several days and a supervisor verified that it needed fixing, then it worked properly. We requested and hand held shower attachment and it was waiting for us when we got on board.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BE

12th floor, aft, with nice cover for the balcony, one floor below the buffet area but not noisy.

Typical size room and bathroom. Beds together for Queen size, very comfortable. We got the thermostat fixed for the next customers.

Port Reviews

Juneau

Went to a restaurant, Salt, and had several tasting courses with wine.

Haines

Went to the Indian cultural center and listened to talks about the history and saw examples of historical carvings.

Ketchikan

Went to 3 local bars and had a drink in each and learned their history

Victoria

We walked through the beautiful Empress Hotel and then went to a book store, sidewalk booths and the Irish Times pub for lunch. We took a taxi into town (cheaper than the shuttle btw) and walked back.
