This was my second cruise to Alaska, both on the Solstice, both Inside passage. Traveling into and out of Seattle is always a plus for me. I like the itinerary for the trip. Although I've visited before there is always so much to do. Alaska deserves a balcony room, where you can enjoy the scenery without crowds and looking for a place to sit. There were 6 of us, ages from 25 to 71, and we all found shore excursions to excite and challenge us. I, 71, took the easier excursions Saxman Village, Glacier tender boat and White Pass RR in Skagway. All were very enjoyable and easy for me. The others did canoeing, hiking and whale watching, which from the pictures were real adventures. I enjoy cruising because it does give everyone an opportunity to do "their own thing". We would come together at dinner time talking about our daily adventures.
The cabin was on floor 9 concierge level. Plenty of room for 2 people, 3 would still have been comfortable. Our cabin server, Isamia, was pleasant and always available to help. He kept the room clean and tidy.
We ate in the main dining room almost every night except one. Our first night on ship, we dined at Murano. The food was delicious. The ambiance was impressionable. Well worth the price but the food in the main dining room was just as good. Our waiter, Anthony, was on top of things always making sure everything was exactly as we wanted. Elizabeth, the wine steward, was excellent. Our glasses were never empty. I drank a Zinfeldal, while the rest of the table drink a red. Upon our arrival the wine was on the table ready to be poured. All the meals in the dining room were well planned and delicious.
There was a lot to do on the ship but not enough time to do it all. We did make a couple of the shows, which were very funny. Silent Disco was a favorite. Karaoke left an unforgettable scare on a couple of us. Trivia. How to Demonstrations. And do forget the daily talks, casino and shopping. With only 2 sea days we had a lot to do.
Two of our favorite places were the Martini bar and the Sunset bar. The guys at the Martini bar put on a real show. You can tell they enjoy pleasing the audience, people come just to watch their performance. The guys at the Sunset bar hung with us even when the temps were below zero, it felt like that. Always with a smile on their face and joke or two.
I did the glassblowing class on board. Everyone should do this. On my last cruise, I watched the demonstration. They made it look easy; it's not. But the young lady who holds the glass is a good teacher. I wish I would have booked 2 classes instead of 1. But there is always a next time.
I would do this cruise again.
Cabin was big enough for 2 could comfortably house 3. Love the balcony. Concierge class has many added perks, the cost is well worth it.
Tour picked me up at the hotel and drove to Mt. Rainier. It was a beautiful trip. Most of the mountain was still covered in snow. While it was raining that day it was not a deterrent for many to try to climb the snow drifts. I met some hikers preparing to scale the mountain from the 5000 foot mark to 8000 feet.View All undefined undefined Reviews
I enjoyed this much better than the Potluck Park. The tour is given by natives to the village. So much more insight to their culture. Loved it.View All 109 Saxman Native Village Reviews
Took the train up and the bus down. Best of both worlds. The train leaves you off in Canada. On the trip down, the bus stops at a couple of places for good picture ops. The bus returns you back to the middle of town or back to the ship. Get off in town. There is so much to see. You don't have to shop. There are several free museums. Also a 5 N 10, Morgan Lindsey store. The walk back is a bit much, at 71, by the bus will take you back for $ 2.00.View All 1212 White Pass Scenic Railway Reviews
You get off the ship at the glacier and get on a tender boat. The boat take you within a 1/4 mile of the glacier. The icebergs are unbelievable, in size and color. On the ride back to Juneau we saw lots of wildlife. Sea lions, eagles and whales, yes whales 3 of them..View All 27 Boat Tour Reviews
