  • Destination: Transatlantic
  • Cabin Type: Deluxe Balcony

We have cruised many, many times since the 1980’s but never did a transatlantic cruise. Princess had a great “Welcome Back” promotion of which we took advantage since it included one of my favorite cities, Brugge, as well as the tulip festival in Holland. It was such a good deal that our friends decided to go with us . Everything about this cruise was perfect! We had absolutely no complaints about anything not even the smallest thing!

This ship must have excellent stabilizers as I am prone to seasickness and one day we had hurricane force winds and really huge waves but I never got sick. While I always wear wrist bands, I did not need any medication. Other then that one day, the weather was great. (We got by with sweatshirts or sweaters and a light jackets. Layering is the way to go.)

The Captain was excellent!

He not only avoided rough seas but because of a medical emergency, he carefully maneuvered the ship while a helicopter airlifted a passenger In the middle of the ocean.

While our balcony room was a little smaller than what we expected, we were very comfortable. There was plenty of storage space and loads of hangers- yea! I think it may be a a little too tight for three adult passengers but ok for a child and two adults, Our cabin included a love seat that could open into a bed. Our friends’ cabin which I think was one category below ours but still a balcony only had a chair not a love seat . Our cabin was a little larger as well.

We chose anytime dining and liked our table and excellent waitstaff so much that we requested the same table every evening.

We used the ship excursions and were glad we did especially in Holland as we were there on the day before King’s Day, a holiday celebrating the King’s Birthday. Well coming back to the ship that Friday afternoon, the traffic was so bad that we were over an hour and a half late (Just like Americans, the Dutch seem to leave work early on the Friday before a holiday ) If we hadn’t been on a ship tour , I would have been extremely nervous!

The entertainment was excellent! Even our sports minded husbands were greatly impressed by the solo

violinist and pianist and gladly attended extra performances by these artists. We all agreed that all the entertainment was wonderful. So much talent!

I truly never expected such outstanding entertainment,

We loved the new medallions. So easy to see where our husbands were playing cards and for them to find us shopping. No more ship cards for me !

My friend and I also got the beverage package that included soda and virgin cocktails (mocktails). We had so much fun trying new drinks without having the negative effect of alcohol. The bartenders were all great. This brings me to another point. We were all appreciative that while ready availability if needed, cocktail and photography staff were very discreet. They were never pushy nor constantly bothering you like we usually experience on most cruise shipsI This truly added to making our cruise so special and relaxing. In fact all the personnel on this cruise were polite, helpful, and well trained. This certainly included our cabin steward who had our room cleaned and ready between the time we left and returned from breakfast every day! Our requests were promptly attended to. What a major difference from our last cruise on another cruise line !

Indeed this was one of the best cruises ever and the four of us thank you Princess. We certainly felt welcomed back!

PS The entire trip was so relaxing and so enjoyable that I will certainly do it again. However, the next time , I may fly to my destination first and then spend lazy days at sea since it took me about a week to truly recover from the whirlwind of tours and the 9 and a half hour flight home.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Balcony
Cabin DB 618

We were worried since our cabin was close to the laundry but we never saw anyone use it,

However, it would have been handy had I needed to iron something.

I loved the cabin’s location between the aft and middle elevators. Our room was quiet with a nice view. If you looked straight down you did see the top of lifeboats but so did all the floors above us. This was not a bother. The shower had shampoo and conditioner on wall mounted containers in the shower but had individual small bottles of body lotion. The hair dryer worked well. There were sufficient outlets for us.

The beds and linens were very nice and we slept well,

I would reserve room 618 again,

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We did rent a car from Avis to drive to Fort Lauderdale from Melbourne, Fl. Their free shuttle drove us to our ship. We suggest you go early to make certain you are on the last shuttle. There is a long line but it moves quickly.

while this tour gives an overview of both cities, if you have not been to Brugge, I would just do a tour of Brugge that included a full day so you could spend more time

enjoying that lovely city.

Since I had been ito Brugge before, we selected this tour. I loved Ghent but unfortunately it was raining very hard while there was no rain in Brugge, For some unknown reason, we began this tour in reverse.

While a good tour, I think it can be improved. In Brugge, the guide did a walking tour which included the very landmarks included in the later canal ride. His time could be better spent taking the group into the Brugge church and to see a lacemaking demonstration. These were included on a former tour I took of Brugge and since the guided tour was the same as the canal tour, it would have been a good addition with much less walking. I must mention that our lunch was delicious and service efficient and welcoming

I would suggest our male guide acquaint himself with the location of more public restrooms . Once in the morning and once in the afternoon, two different passengers requested restroom

stops. Both times, he told them yes, shortly. Both times, shortly meant over an hour! I felt so sorry for these passengers as their discomfort was quite evident and despite the

both asking several times , he did nothing. At one point he took us in a hotel to see their renovations, Surly there was a restroom there that the gentleman could have used.

This guide had an excellent knowledge of both cities but he needed to be more receptive to his charges needs.

Keukenhof Tulip Festival

Loved the gardens! Wonderful, enjoyable day ! Glad we took ship excursion as Tegucigalpa was horrible returning to ship because of next day holiday. Got back to ship very late . Didn’t worry because we were on ship excursion. The extra cost of the ship excursion was certainly worth it this time ‘
